MEET THE NEW CEO
Dr. Jay Conyers

 

Prior to joining the Maricopa County Medical Society, Dr. Jay Conyers was a health care executive in Washington, DC, where he ran a consulting firm that provided strategic business services for regional clients with an emphasis on health IT, telemedicine, and healthcare reform.  Before his tenure in Washington, he spent nearly a decade on the faculty at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, where he held academic appointments in cardiology, trauma surgery, and biomedical engineering and secured more than $125 million in extramural funding for biomedical research.  He founded the Alliance for NanoHealth and Center for Translational Injury Research while in Houston, and has recently organized and chaired health policy workshops in Washington, DC for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.  He holds a Ph.D. in physical/analytical chemistry from the University of Utah and a B.S. in chemistry from Trinity University.

Our brains are uniquely well-suited for dealing with opposites.  Even ancient men --- without an understanding of cellular biology, molecular genetics, or electrophysiology--- had an appreciation for our capacity to organize and learn across a spectrum.  Hippocrates, who is known to cause physicians to swear to this day, said "Men ought to know that from the brain, and from the brain only, arise our pleasures, joys, laughter, and jests, as well as our sorrows, pains, griefs and tears."

Three brave, young, blind swimmers will jump into the 59-degree waters of San Francisco Bay and swim the 1.5 mile channel from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco. Tanner, Katie, and Max will be the first blind swimmers to make the swim in Alcatraz invitational's 18-year history.

 

All the funds raised by this historic swim support the Foundation for Blind Children's new Blind Teens to Work Program! Please join the team and support one or all of the blind swimmers.
