We have two priorities during the 2015 Alaska legislature.

Support for the State Match for Public Transportation - Once again, the AMC is asking for the legislature support for the state match program. The program has generated $5 million in state funds over the last four years. The funding has been used to match federal, other state, local and private funds to buy equipment, hire drivers and expand routes to support Alaskans getting to work, school and medical appointments.  I have attached a copy of the FY15 state match distribution for your review.

Alaska Transportation Infrastructure Fund - According to the National Council of State Legislatures, Alaska is the only state in the union that does not have a dedicated transportation trust fund. That means that all of our gas taxes, DMV fees and other transportation revenue go into the general fund. In the meantime, Alaska continues to lag in replacing much needed transportation infrastructure such as roads, bridges, ferries, airports and public transportation. The Alaska Mobility Coalition (AMC) is working with transportation advocates to create a statewide transportation fund for Alaska. We are pleased to be working with former State Representative Peggy Wilson on this project and are working to identify a legislator who will re-introduce her bill during the upcoming session. In the meantime, the AMC is looking for funding to put together a statewide awareness campaign, if you have any ideas or suggestions, please contact Doug Bridges (AMC president) or myself.  I have linked an overview of Representative Wilson's proposal for your review.

FAIRBANKS TRANSPORTATION PARTNERSHIP PROJECT (FTPP)

The Fairbanks Transportation Partnership Project (FTTP) is kicking off round three.  Casey Anderson will be making a trip to Fairbanks on February 25 to meet with members of the steering committee and other community partners to discuss the status of the project.

The VISTA application is moving forward and we anticipate being able to begin the recruitment process in April.  This VISTA Volunteer will help maintain the Fairbanks Transportation website, help develop working agreements between transit providers, and help develop the position of Transit Manager for the Fairbanks North Star Borough.  If you know of anyone who is interested in helping to develop the Fairbanks transportation scene, please let us know.

We are in the process of putting ads on the exterior of MACS Transit buses so please watch for those ads over the next few weeks.  We are also going to be placing ads on the radio so please listen for those starting in March.  There will be a full meeting of the Fairbanks Transportation Partnership Group in March.

Sen. Murkowski & David Levy AMC TRANSITION

January 30, 2015

Dear AMC members:

It is with a mixture of sadness and excitement, that I inform you I am leaving the AMC. My last day with the Alaska Mobility Coalition (AMC) will be on February 17th. Starting in mid-February I will begin working for the Municipality of Anchorage as their Senior Services Coordinator.

The AMC board of directors, Casey (AMC Membership Assistant), and I are working on a transition plan as we look to the future of the organization as well as the hiring and recruitment process for a new Executive Director. Doug Bridges, AMC Board President, is leading the transition team. As the transition plan is developed we will keep you appraised of our progress.  We want to take this opportunity to express our continued dedication and commitment to the current projects and activities, including our outreach efforts in Fairbanks and advocacy in Juneau for the state match funds.

The key to the success of the AMC over the last 7 ½ years has been our vocal and diverse membership. The creation of the Governor's Community and Public Transportation Advisory Board as well as the State Match for Public and Community Transportation would not have come about without the support of our members. On behalf of myself and the entire AMC board of directors, I would like to thank you for your continued support of the AMC. As an AMC member, I am excited about the direction the organization is taking and I look forward to be involved as a active member in the future.

Thanks again for your support of the AMC and if you want to get a hold of me in the future, I can be reached at davidlevyak@gmail.com. If you have any questions about the transition process or current project activities please contact Doug Bridges atDoug.bridges@ccsjuneau.org or Casey Anderson at caseyamc@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

David M. Levy

Executive Director
