The New England Pension Assistance Project and the Pension Rights Center applaud government agencies for rescuing SPDs 

Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs) Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs) are plain-English summaries of employee benefit plan rules, which can be critical in helping retirees, widows, and widowers prove that they are entitled to benefits from their pension plans or the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC). 

The Pension Action Center's New England Pension Assistance Project and the Pension Rights Center, in Washington, DC, were recently involved in a successful effort to save a large archive of SPDs that were set be destroyed.
cCenter's Suggestions Incorporated into New Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) Report
"I'm hopeful that we can develop a more compassionate and respectful approach"
Connie Donovan, the PBGC's participant and plan sponsor advocate, recently submitted her first annual report. One of her roles in this newly created position is to help resolve persistent problems between plan participants and the PBGC.

Her inaugural report includes some very helpful recommendations about improving how the PBGC interacts with participants and their representatives, such as the Pension Action Center.
