15 in '15 Reading Challenge!

We are two months into 15 in '15, the library's new adult year-long reading program.

While the program challenges you to read 15 books of your choosing in 2015, it's not about reading fast or getting to the finish line first - it's about enjoying books.

Any book, in any format or genre may be selected.

Our first raffle winner was chosen in February! Marie Tumbiolo won a $15 gift card to Amazon.com. Our next raffle will be on March 15.

In order to be eligible for the raffle, you have to register for the program. It's simple! Either log onto our website at www.flintmemoriallibrary.org and click the 15 in '15 tab and register there, or you can register in person at the library's front desk.

Log your books online or on a log sheet (available for download at our site). Then visit the library and pick up your raffle tickets.

You'll be eligible for every raffle all year, including our grand prize in December!

15 in '15 Book Recommendation

From one of our patrons, who has logged a public review of a book read for the 15 in '15 reading challenge

I highly reccomend this book! It takes place in 1941 in England and on the tip of Cape Cod. It is wartime in England and an American broadcaster named Frankie Bard describes the horrors of the bombings. Meanwhile, Iris James keeps tabs on her townspeople as Postmaster in Mass. Both women have a job to deliver; one, the news and the other, the mail. Their lives intersect and they find that neither one is able to fully do the job in which they have been entrusted.
Living with Coyotes

John Maguranis of Project Coyote: Fostering Coexistence will present an informative evening program on our backyard neighbors.

Learn about coyotes' natural behavior, hazing, identification, myths and facts, diet, origin and history, as well as pet and human safety.

Tuesday, March 24 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Take the Night Off!

The Community Impact Team is hosting a North Reading Night Off on March 12 from 5 p.m. to bed time.

This is a time for families to stay home and enjoy a stress-free evening together.

There will be NO library activities, but we will remain open until 8 p.m.
Who Do You Put First?

The library's daytime book club will be asking that question during its next meeting.

The group will discuss Jojo Moyes' Me Before You, Wednesday, March. 25 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

From the author

Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life - steady boyfriend, close family - who has barely been farther afield than her tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for ex-Master of the Universe Will Traynor, who is wheelchair-bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge life - big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel - and he is not interested in exploring a new one.

Will is acerbic, moody, bossy - but Lou refuses to treat him with kid gloves, and soon his happiness means more to her than she expected. When she learns that Will has shocking plans of his own, Lou sets out to show him that life is still worth living.

Me Before You brings to life two people who couldn't have less in common - a heartbreakingly romantic novel that asks, 'What do you do when making the person you love happy also means breaking your own heart?'

Finding Your True Self

The library's evening drop-in book group will discuss Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery at its next session on Tuesday, April 7 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Don't worry if you've never attended a library book group session! Just stop by, all are welcome.

We are in the center of Paris, in an elegant apartment building inhabited by bourgeois families. Rene, the concierge, is witness to the lavish but vacuous lives of her numerous employers. Outwardly she conforms to every stereotype of the concierge: fat, cantankerous, addicted to television. Yet, unbeknownst to her employers, Rene is a cultured autodidact who adores art, philosophy, music, and Japanese culture. With humor and intelligence she scrutinizes the lives of the building's tenants, who for their part are barely aware of her existence.

Then there's Paloma, a twelve-year-old genius. She is the daughter of a tedious parliamentarian, a talented and startlingly lucid child who has decided to end her life on the sixteenth of June, her thirteenth birthday. Until then she will continue behaving as everyone expects her to behave: a mediocre pre-teen high on adolescent subculture, a good but not an outstanding student, an obedient if obstinate daughter.

Paloma and Rene hide both their true talents and their finest qualities from a world they suspect cannot or will not appreciate them. They discover their kindred souls when a wealthy Japanese man named Ozu arrives in the building. Only he is able to gain Paloma's trust and to see through Rene's timeworn disguise to the secret that haunts her. This is a moving, funny, triumphant novel that exalts the quiet victories of the inconspicuous among us.
