15 in '15 Book Recommendation

From one of our patrons, who has logged a public review of a book read for the 15 in '15 reading challenge

The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling is a tremendous study of small town living in England. Filled with characters you will love and hate, Rowling manages to weave together a seamless story of what happens when one man dies - and leaves a gaping hole left in the town.

Is It Real?

That's the question the library's daytime book club will be asking during its next meeting.

The group will discuss B.A. Shapiro's The Art Forger Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

From the author
In the early morning hours of March 18, 1990, two men dressed as police officers bound and gagged two guards at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, Massachusetts, and stole thirteen works of art worth today over $500 million...

But when the long-missing Degas painting-the one which had been hanging for 100 years at the Gardner Museum-is delivered to Claire's studio, she begins to suspect that it may not be the original, but a forgery itself.

As she begins her search for the truth about the painting's origins and its possible link to a secret relationship between Edgar Degas and Isabella Stewart Gardner--revealed to the reader through Isabella's letters to her niece-Claire finds herself in a breathless race through a labyrinth of deceit where secrets hidden since the late 19th century may hold the key to the mysteries of the present.

When Ireland & Brooklyn Collide

The library's evening drop-in book group will discuss Brooklyn: A Novel by Colm Tibn at its next session on Tuesday, March 3 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Don't worry if you've never attended a library book group session! Just stop by, all are welcome.

"One of the most unforgettable characters in contemporary literature" (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette), Eilis Lacey has come of age in small-town Ireland in the hard years following World War Two. When an Irish priest from Brooklyn offers to sponsor Eilis in America, she decides she must go, leaving her fragile mother and her charismatic sister behind.

Eilis finds work in a department store on Fulton Street, and when she least expects it, finds love. Tony, who loves the Dodgers and his big Italian family, slowly wins her over with patient charm. But just as Eilis begins to fall in love, devastating news from Ireland threatens the promise of her future.
