  Hello from
The Quilt Basket!

Snow, Snow & More Snow

Not to mention the WIND! solo-snowman.jpg

Our Annual Superbowl Sale was a big success but the Sunday Mystery Quilt Sew-In was a sno-go! The snow and the wind left us all snowbound and the quilt remains a mystery! We've rescheduled the sew-in for Monday, February 9th from 10 to 4. It won't be Superbowl Day but we'll have snacks and lunch ready for you. If you can't make it next Monday, please stop in and pick up the pattern at your convenience and take a peek at the solution to the mystery!

GALLERY HAPPENINGS

This month our Gallery features Staff favorites - a quilt or two from each of our talented staff members. I'm sure you'll enjoy the variety! The quilt above was made by Trudy Gocke from York. Trudy used her embroidery machine to embroider her blocks. Then when all the blocks were finished, she sewed them together into this striking patriotic wall hanging. If you'd like to see Trudy's work, you'll need to come to the Gallery on Monday before we take them down to make room for the next exhibit.
We invite you to join us this Thursday evening from 5 to 7 as we welcome the Prairie Pioneer Quilters from Grand Island. I took a peek at the quilts they dropped off and they look great! Stop in on your way home from work, Thursday evening and enjoy the quilts with a glass of wine and some snacks!

SEW & TELL

Lots of sew and tell to share this week!

This is Sue Hoffschneider's quilt that she worked on in embroidery class. You can't really see the embroidery but, trust me, there are blue snowmen in the big blocks and snowflakes in the smaller white blocks. Nanc had planned this project to last 2 months but the class had so much fun with it that they all finished the embroidery in class, so Nanc has a new project planned for the February class. Thanks for sharing Sue! It looks right at home in this weather!

Eileen Steinbeck joined us for Bernina Club and brought these two quilts to show. The animal print one is for a new grand-nephew. She used her embroidery machine to add the tiger and lion faces and Brecken's name and particulars to the blocks. The quilt below is a quick throw that Eileen made using Kansas Troubles fabric and a rail fence block. Quick, easy and beautiful! Thanks Eileen!

Leanna Smith brought us this quilt that she made using a panel and fabrics she bought from us. If it looks vaguely familiar, you're correct. We  have a sample hanging in the front of the store using the same fabrics but constructed slightly differently. Leanna tweaked the pattern into a version all her own. It turned out beautifully, don't you think?

Have you ever se en a puff quilt? This method of quiltmaking has recently resurfaced and Sharon Davis brought us her version that she recently made for a baby girl to use for tummy time! Each square is stuffed with fiberfill and Sharon finished off the back with pink cuddle. Looks like a lovely gift for a special baby! Thanks for sharing it with us, Sharon.

We love Sew & Tell! Please bring your completed projects in so we can enjoy them and share with all the other quilters who like to see finished quilts - even if they belong to someone else! Looking forward to seeing your next one!

I heard the plow go down our street Sunday morning before I'd even opened my eyes. I knew then that the snow and wind had put a big kink into our SuperBowl Sunday Mystery Day plans. This is the first time in 6 years that the weather hasn't cooperated. I was sorry to have to cancel but there was no way any of us should have been out and about in that weather. Hope you can come to our make-up game day on Monday, February 9th. Snacks and Lunch are still part of the game plan, so come play with us!

Keep Quilting,

Linda
