Driving electric is good for the environment
Thanks for attending our free Annapolis Showcase as part of National Drive Electric Week on September 10. It was part of a nationwide celebration to heighten awareness of today's widespread availability of plug-in vehicles and highlight the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more.
We had 36 owners and dealers of electric vehicles who answered questions such as "Ask me why I drive electric!" with the Historic Annapolis Harbor as a backdrop.
There even had two electric boats brought by KJKoch Duffy Boats and Annapolis Hybrid Marine (see them at the sail boat show in October). We also had information about car charging from SemaConnect, solar power info from Solar City, and information about energy saving LED lights for marine use from Orca Green Marine.
Aldermen Jared Littmann and Joe Budge presented us with a Proclamation that September 10 was "Drive Electric Day in Annapolis."
Thank you also to Bob Bruninga, Paul Jorgensen, Judy Templeton and David Wood who brought his demo board showing different types of home lighting and how much energy each uses.

Annapolis Green is Has a New Pollinator Garden at the Green House!
We're doing our part to make welcome pollinators to our city.
Thanks to a grant from Unity Gardens, professional landscape design by Deborah Schwab, and labor and advice from Homestead Gardens, the huge, overgrown, non-native shrubs are gone and now we have natives.
Our new garden will absorb a great deal of the rainwater on the property and will be very friendly to bees and hummingbirds! In fact, the bees moved in right away!
Garden wish list: - A small bird bath - Flags: Maryland, Navy, US

Annapolis Green to Welcome Ocean-going Hawaiian Sailing Canoe
Hokule'a to Annapolis!
While sailboats with the most modern of technologies are in place at the boat show downtown, a striking example of traditional Polynesian sailing will be docked at the Annapolis Maritime Museum. Annapolis Green is hosting the October 9-12 visit of the 62-foot voyaging canoe Hokule'a at the Museum with a festive welcoming ceremony, public tours of the hand-made canoe, an educational opportunity for children, and a public lecture on the ancient art of Polynesian navigation. Hokule'a left Hawai'i in 2014 to embark on a historic Worldwide Voyage covering more than 100 ports and 27 nations to spread the message of coming together to care for Island Earth. At the invitation of Annapolis Green she is making a stop here on her way home. Hokule'a is a double-hull sailing vessel whose crew navigates without the use of modern instruments -- no compass, no sextant, no GPS -- using their understanding of the stars, winds and waves to voyage from destination to destination. Click here for a short video about the worldwide voyage.Annapolis Green is thrilled and honored to host this visit and thanks the staff and Board of the Maritime Museum for its hospitality. We invite the Annapolis sailing, boating, and paddling community to welcome these intrepid visitors to learn from them and share our concern for Island Earth and our Chesapeake Bay.Details of the visit are being finalized. The tentative schedule and more information about the Hokule'a and her worldwide voyage are on our website: click here.

Thank you for attending our last event at
109 Main Street
&
179B Main Street
We tried something new - a two-step evening, block to block on Main Street! We combined Local by Design's Local Giving Day with drinks at Fox's Den, just a few doors away, for a unique, two-location Green Drinks!Your sh opping all day long on Sept. 8 at Local by Design benefited Annapolis Green, while Green Drinks ran from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., as usual, at both locations. All photos by Kenneth Tom
Thanks to the recently opened Local by Design (The same group from Gallery 3976 where we held our our July 2015 Green Drinks.). Annapolis Green couldn't resist Local by Design's invitation to be the beneficiary of its "Local Giving Day." All the shopping you did in this lovely boutique all day long on September 8 benefited Annapolis Green! Green Drinkers enjoyed browsing an incredible array of artwork of all kinds made by 55 local artists. The boutique has everything from jewelry to pillows to clothing to candles, soap, paintings, glass work, and art made from repurposed items and even a six-pack carrier made of boat canvas and manila line! Our hosts, Suzi Jett and Susan Sears offered Green Drinkers some light refreshments f or a small donation, in the form of wine from Mills Fine Wine & Spirits in the lovely garden at the back of the boutique. Meanwhile, a short block away, Green Drinkers had a terrific experience at Annapolis' GastroPub, Fox's Den. If you missed Green Drinks, be sure to visit th "underground" Fox's Den, and you'll be in for a treat. The bar has an incredible selection of cocktails, wine, craft beers, and bourbon, rye, whiskeys and even sazerac! Let the talented bartenders show their stuff! Thank you to Manager Tommy Burns who offered tastings of chef's delicious pizza and some other surprises.
