The calendar is filling up with special events whose organizers are participating in our Green REF program.
Friday, Sept. 9
Arts Alive 18
Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts
Sing along to the Motown Sound at Arts Alive 18 to support Maryland Hall's
mission to bring "art for all" to our community. Sample food, wine, beer and signature drinks and bid on items in extensive silent and live auctions and dancing to Motown
tunes by The "Original" Moonlighters.
Maryland Hall does recycle, but at this event watch for our Eco-Stations as we take it to ZERO Waste for the second consecutive year, with everything being composted or recycled and nothing going to the landfill. Event organizers are even offering water stations to eliminate one-time use of plastic bottles. The Bay says thank you!

Blazers. Bourbon. Cigars. September 15
William Paca House & Gardens
Longtime residents and newcomers will come together to enjoy a fun filled evening with blazers, bourbon and cigars, hosted by Historic Annapolis. This event was established to provide a premier Gentlemen's only evening in Annapolis with wonderful food, drinks, cigars and clothiers. It is a gathering of the "who's who" in Annapolis and from Washington, Baltimore, and the Eastern Shore. Our Green REF program will provide recycling for this elegant event. ******

Be a Sponsor: Associate your company brand with doing good for the environment as a Green REF sponsor. Ask us how you can help us do the right thing and get credit for doing so!

Volunteer opportunities coming up - be a Green REF!

Thursday, Sept. 8
5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
109 Main Street
&
179B Main Street
Get to Know Local Artists & Shop to Benefit Annapolis Green
Then Meet "Green" at the Fox!
We're trying something new - a two-step, two-location evening on Main Street -- at Local by Design AND at Fox's Den.
We'll be celebrating Green Drinks from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at both locations. Here's how it works: Sign in and start your evening at Local by Design.
The recently opened Local by Design (The same group from Gallery 3976 where we held our our July 2015 Green Drinks), invites Green Drinkers to be part of its "Local Giving Day" with Annapolis Green as its beneficiary. Any shopping you do in this lovely boutique all day long on September 8 will benefit Annapolis Green!
And you will enjoy browsing an incredible array of artwork of all kinds made by 55 local artists. There is everything from furniture to candles, jewelry to pillows, clothing to soap, paintings, glass work, and art made from repurposed items and even a six-pack carrier made of boat canvas and manila line! Many of the artists will be present so you can meet them in person.
And, of course, our hosts Suzi Jett and Susan Sears won't let us browse thirsty. For a small donation, we will offer light refreshments in the form of wine from Mills Fine Wine & Spirits for your browsing and shopping pleasure in the lovely garden at the back of the boutique. Mills, by the way, is in the midst of its semi-annual sale -- now through Sunday with 25% wine case discount, 20% off all Irish and Scotch whiskey, and other great deals.
Then, walk just a short block up Main to aterrific experience at Annapolis' GastroPub, Fox's Den. If you haven't yet found the "underground" Fox's Den, you're in for a treat. The establishment has an big selection of cocktails, wine, craft beers, and bourbon, rye, whiskeys and even sazerac for your NOLA fans. Let the talented bartenders show their stuff! Cash bar. Manager Tommy Burns will offer tastings of chef's delicious pizza and some other surprises. And do consider staying for dinner. Click for the menu. Especially due to our multi-location event, we need volunteers so all will go smoothly. Please contact us if you'd like to pour wine at Local by Design or greet Green Drinkers at Fox's Den. Volunteering is a great way to meet everybody at this fun event.
The mantras for both: Locally sourced, hand crafted and family owned and operated!
See you this evening!

Driving electric is good for the environment. Find out how.
Our free event is part of National Drive Electric Week, Sept. 10 -18, a nationwide celebration to heighten awareness of today's widespread availability of plug-in vehicles and highlight the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more.
Owners and dealers of electric vehicles will encourage you to "Ask me why I drive electric!" with the Historic Annapolis Harbor as a backdrop.
At this fun and informative event, you can get information about what it's like to drive electric including:
- How far you can go
- How and where to charge
- Cost
- Performance
- Benefits to the environment
- Government incentives
Most of the vehicles will be brought to the event by individual owners, who can talk frankly about their experiences with plug-in transportation. Some will be brought by dealers who can offer information about lease and purchase. There will even be two electric boats brought by KJKoch Duffy Boats and Annapolis Hybrid Marine. And we'll have information about car charging from SemaConnect, solar power info from Solar City, and information about energy saving LED lights for marine use from Orca Green Marine!

Annapolis Green is Getting a New Garden at the Green House!
We're doing our part to make welcome pollinators to our city. Tomorrow work will begin on a brand new garden at 92 Maryland Avenue.
Thanks to a grant from Unity Gardens, professional landscape design by Deborah Schwab, and labor and advice from Homestead Gardens, the huge, overgrown, non-native shrubs will make way for natives.
Our new garden will absorb a great deal of the rainwater on the property and will be very friendly to bees and hummingbirds!

Where does the recycling go?
tours are full
with a waiting list
Unfortunately, yesterday's tour had to be canceled at the last minute due to a machinery problem. Because interest in touring Waste Management's Materials Reclamation Facility has been so strong we will reschedule soon. Meanwhile, next week's tour, Sept. 14, is on!
