You haven't heard from us for a bit because we're engaged in an Olympian effort - Greening the Annapolis Rotary's 71st Annual Crab Feast. The event takes place this afternoon, August 5, from 5-8 p.m. at the Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. We're making it possible for ALL the waste from the event, which draws over 2500 people, to be composted or recycled. That means that NOTHING will go to the landfill! Read more below.

We had a great time on Tuesday, July 19
at
Great Frogs Winery Theme Drink Local. Eat Local. Support Local.
Event Sponsor
It was a warm but very enjoyable evening when Green Drinkers enjoyed terrific wine and food in the lovely, bucolic setting of at Great Frogs Winery. Green Drinkers had a taste of seven premium wines, a full glass and a souvenir glass along with a delicious appetizer buffet.
La Prima Food Group, known for its award-winning catered events and environmentally friendly farm to table fare, outdid itself with the organic, light appetizers buffet provided Green Drinkers. The food was right out of the field from USDA Organic Certified Groundworks Farm. Everything on the menu of Avocado Corn Salsa Cups, Veggie and Fruit Rollups, Tuna and Squash Carpaccio, and Blueberry Pavlova was as delicious is it was imaginative. What a treat.
Dave Evans, President of La Prima, spoke for a few minutes about the work of his devoted staff, including Chef Kyle. And we were astounded when we received a note from Dave the next day saying the payment we made for the buffet would not be accepted because he wants us to "Use the funds to further what you are doing." La Prima became a Founding
One Hundred supporter some time ago. We are so grateful for the continued support of this wonderful local company. Thank you!
We'd like also to thank our event sponsor, Blades of Green Lawn Care and Pest Control. Brad Leahy, Vice President of Blades of Green, spoke about how he is working to change the tide in his industry to move toward Earth friendly practices. Blades of Green demonstrates that you can keep your yard beautiful AND your family safe from pests without poisoning the Earth. The company, an Annapolis Green Founding One Hundred supporter, is locally owned and operated and has been servicing homes and businesses for over 25 years.
And to our hosts, Nate and Andrea O'Shea, Great Frogs' winemakers, thank you! They have been very supportive of Annapolis Green's efforts and Great Frogs is our newest Founding One Hundred supporter. We thanked them for donating the staves we used for the stave walls in the Annapolis Green House and the labor of their carpenter, Lee King. We also recognized Jim Morrison of MyLogoOnIt.com, the engraver of the staves.
At Green Drinks Nate gave a few brief tours of the barrel room where the wines are blended, aged bottled. That was great fun.
Green Drinks at Great Frogs was a magical way to spend a warm summer evening and supporting the local economy: Drink Local. Eat Local. Support Local!
Green Drinks marked both the 2016 Buy Local Week Challenge (July 23-31) and Maryland Wine Week (July 22-31). The Buy Local Challenge asks Marylanders to eat at least one thing from a local farm every day during the week. The annual Maryland Wine Week is a celebration of Maryland wine, hard cider and mead produced by the more than 75 wineries throughout the state. Let's eat and drink the bounty of Maryland every week and support local agriculture, an important part of our economy!

Annapolis Rotary Crab Feast
A ZERO-Waste Event
Friday, August 5Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium 5 - 8 p.m.
Our biggest REF event!
Annapolis Green is making it possible for the Annapolis Rotary to be the shining example of how an enormous undertaking can happen in a way that is good for the Earth.
This is the third year Annapolis Green is working with Rotary. When we started beverage containers were recycled, but the huge amount of food waste and serving containers went to the landfill. That's not the case now!
We all will be working to make sure that crab shells, watermelon rinds, corn cobs, hot dog, soup and BBQ leftovers, trays, cups, and paper goods are collected and composted. Within two months, our partners at Veteran Compost will turn that waste material into beautiful, sweet-smelling compost ready to make gardens beautiful! Plastic and metal beverage containers will be recycled and NOTHING will go to the landfill.
Tomorrow afternoon 2500 hungry crab feasters will be gently encouraged to do the right thing by recycling & composting tons (Really, tons!) at this iconic event, now in its 71st year!
We have a terrific cadre of volunteers who will do just that and they will look really spiffy too, in the t-shirts pictured above, thanks to Captain's Club Apparel. The store, at 168 Main Street, has donated our volunteer shirts! Everyone is invited to Captain's Club's ribbon cutting on Saturday at 11 a.m. We want to thank the Rotarians for working so hard to make the Greening aspect of this big event successful along with our partners, Captain's Club Apparel, Veteran Compost, and Bay Area Disposal. If you're coming to feast tomorrow, look for our recycling and composting bins and visit our table. We'd love to see you!
