Be a part of the Green REF!

The festival season is kicking off soon as is our third year of bringing the environmental message to festival organizers, volunteers and participants all over our region. We are looking for sponsors and volunteers for upcoming events.
We'd like to commend the Parole Rotary Club for moving toward sustainability by capturing recycling, compostables, and cooking oil at its Naptown barBAYq last weekend. Our Responsible Events & Festivals (Green REF) program sponsor at this event was Solar City.
We'd also like to thank our newly minted and deployed Green REF Volunteers from St. Mary's and Severn Schools.
NEXT UP
- May 19 We are providing recycling and composting services and could use the help of volunteers to help attendees dispose of their waste properly. The event, to be held at Historic London Town and Gardens, is about sipping and savoring the taste of locally produced appetizers prepared by Anne Arundel County's certified Environmental Stewardship Restaurants. Read more. We are looking for a company to sponsor the Greening of this event. Please contact us for more information.
Volunteers and sponsors will help the regatta earn a Sailors for the Sea Clean Regatta Gold Certification.
Get your company name associated with clean water and an eco-friendly community by being a REF sponsor. We'll match your company's sustainability goals with an upcoming regatta, running race or festival for mutual benefit.
We need volunteers to help folks attending these events do the right thing -- recycle and compost. You'll feel good knowing that you're doing good for our planet and having fun too!

Dock Bar at Pirate's Cove Waterfront Restaurant
4817 Riverside Drive, Galesville
Theme: Biking & Boating Around the Bay
We're following the bike paths... or the water trail... down to visit our friends and supporters at the Irish Restaurant Company's newest acquisition, Pirate's Cove in Galesville.
We've ordered up some overdue sun for a fun and engaging night appreciating and respecting biking and boating on our Bay!
We will be outside, at the Dock Bar, on a beautiful warm day, we hope!
Pirate's Cove is now owned by the Irish Restaurant Company who also owns Galway Bay Irish Pub, Brian Boru, and Killarney House. The fare is still south county seafood-oriented, but with the added skill, flare and sustainability ethic of the company's chefs. Earlier this month, the Irish Restaurant Company was honored with the McCormick Cornerstone of the Industry Award for its success and contributions to Maryland Foodservice Industry and to the Restaurant Association of Maryland.
There will be a cash bar and delicious complimentary appetizers provided by our hosts. We're asking for a $10 donation for this fun event.
a leader in efficient and environmentally friendly energy technology solutions for residential, government, commercial and industrial customers. Have a look at the company's website to see if this is the best energy provider for you or bring your power bill to Green Drinks to discuss your alternatives with WGL representatives. WGL Energy also partners with Solar City for a complete package of available renewable energy alternatives.
WGL Energy is the energy provider for our friends at Schooner Woodwind and the Irish Restaurant Company.
Theme: Biking & Boating Around the Bay
We're going to focus on bicycling as a great and Green way to explore Chesapeake Country. May is National Bike Month, to showcase the many benefits of bicycling - and encourage more folks to give biking a try.
Bicycle Advocates for Annapolis & Anne Arundel County (BikeAAA) has activities planned in our area for National Bike to Work Week,May 16-20, and Bike to Work Day on May 20. Find out more at Green Drinks. And don't forget Ride for the Rivers tomorrow, a great bicycling event for all ages and skill levels to benefit the West & Rhode Riverkeeper. It ends with the "Muddy Bottom BBQ" at Discovery Village. We're also going to focus on Green boating activities including Greening of regattas and their shoreside parties. For example, folks from the Leukemia Cup regatta (June 3 & 4) will join us to talk about how they are working with Annapolis Green and their hosts, Eastport Yacht Club and Annapolis Yacht Club, to earn a Sailors for the Sea Gold Level Clean Regatta certification. And we're looking for sponsors and volunteers to help with this event for a great cause! See the sidebar. And we'll have some information on how you can Green the operation of your own boat too -- whether you're cruising or racing. It's all for the health of the Bay! Special Raffle! As a special treat, we'll have a raffle to win a two-hour sail from Galesville for only $5 per ticket. Thanks to Capt. Paul Foer, our raffle is for a two-hour sail this summer aboard his 38' classic boat, the Non Sea Quitter. Proceeds will benefit Annapolis Green. The two-hour sail is a $260 value. See details on our website.
