The Annapolis Partnership, through its Main Streets program, coordinates the
project. Beauty is transformative and flowering planters and hanging flower baskets throughout historic Annapolis make residents and visitors feel welcomed and safe.  Studies show that visitors and shoppers will stay longer in an area that conveys beauty. In 2015, this was a nearly $50,000 project done in partnership with local businesses, residents, the City of Annapolis and Homestead Gardens and brought nearly 50 planters and 136 hanging baskets to the historic streets of Annapolis.

Thank you

for hosting Green Drinks last Wednesday

Our event was held right in the middle of A Feast of Color, Homestead Garden's Annual Home & Garden Expo and it was beautiful. A touch of spring, the color of flowers, and terrific outdoor (and indoor) design ideas was just what we needed coming out of winter. And we had a great crowd!

Thank you to our Event Sponsor

and its programs

It was our 8th annual Green Drinks at Homestead and owner Brian Riddle gave us a warm welcome as he talked about two new initiatives: Bee a Hero and Modern Homesteading.

bee a hero Bee a Hero is about helping all of us do something positive about the crises pollinators face today.

Through the initiative, Homestead Gardens supports the  Million Pollinator Garden Challenge. This campaign seeks to register a million public and private pollinator gardens across the nation in 2016. Homestead hopes to help increase the number of pollinator gardens in this area. Want to get involved? Join the Homestead Pollinator Club for education, expert advice and special sales on pollinator friendly plants and resources.

And check out Homestead's new Modern Homesteading department for information and supplies for indoor gardening, hydroponic gardening, liquid nutrients, and beekeeping supplies.

And here's a big thank you to Homestead for the discount coupons provided for Green Drinkers.

We featured two programs organized by our event sponsor, the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay: Businesses for the Bay and Project Clean Stream. Executive Director Al Todd (also an Annapolis Green Board member) gave us an overview.

If you are looking for way for your business to give back to the community and the environment, look into
Businesses for the Bay. Want to learn more? Sign up for a FREE informational Businesses for the Bay Lunch and Learn Webinar on Wednesday, March 23, at noon. Details.

And if you as an individual or as a member of a group want to get your hands dirty this spring, look into Project Clean Stream, a watershed-wide cleanup that can be scheduled from the end of March through May. Most projects are right around the first week in April and several are going on in our area.

Learn more by listening to an interview with the heads of both programs in the archive of our radio program, Living Green in Annapolis, Click here.

We can't give a strong enough thank you to Herrington on the Bay. The appetizer buffet was absolutely delicious and how wonderful that Chef Mike provided vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Every year, everyone raves about the fabulous food at the Green Drinks at Homestead and it was terrific once again. Thank you to the entire Herrington staff and to owner Anna Chaney who could not join us last week. Herrington follows a strong environmentally friendly ethic. Read more.

mills fine wine _ spirits We were very happy to have the owner of Mills Fine Wine & Spirits, Jen Donahoe, join us to pour the wines and beers she selected for us and to tell us all about them. Mills is located at the foot of Main Street in Annapolis

We were also very glad to introduce Green Drinkers to Stacey and Jim of Rutabaga Craft Juicery, located in West Annapolis. Rutagaba is a new store serving healthy, locally-sourced, made-to-order cold-pressed juice, and more. Everybody who sampled the red, green or orange juices loved them! It's a delicious way to drink healthy! Read about Rutabaga's "Eco-Cred."

watershed stewards academy Thank you to Lara Mulvaney and other Master Watershed Stewards who gave Green Drinkers some insight into the watersheds we live in. Learn more about the stewards from the Anne Arundel Watershed Stewards Academy website.

And we were delighted to have several artists from the Annapolis Arts Alliance with info about "Petite Green Squares," the first art exhibit to be hosted at the Annapolis Green House starting on April 10! We believe that art is part of what makes our community vibrant and are thrilled to provide a venue for this exhibit of small works. Learn more.

Lisa Thompson, Executive Director of the Annapolis Partnership, joined us to promote Annapolis in Bloom.

Our friends from Solar City helped us with drink tickets! We hope you spoke with them about how you can go solar. We'll have more info on this soon!

Our event was zero-waste. Everything was either composted or recycled. Thanks for helping us with this! And to those who brought their own cups and name tags - thanks for helping us cut down on waste in this way!

And finally, we can't put on Green Drinks without the help of our wonderful volunteers. A big thank you to Greg Perry, Sandy Williams, Rita Calvert, Tom Cagle, Ken Tom, Cathie Trogdon, Mariel Yarbrough, and Jeanne Langdon.

The next Green Drinks -- our Earth Day event -- will be held in April at the Loews Annapolis Hotel. Date TBA.

And be sure to join us tomorrow night for a screening of "In Defense of Food." <<-- See the sidebar.
