Environmental Legislation
There are a batch of important environmental bills in the General Assembly right now.
The best way to stay current is to follow the Hotlist of the Maryland League of Conservation Voters. They will be happy to send you a weekly update. Click here.
Stay informed and speak up on issues that are important to you! A letter or an email goes a long way in bringing your representative around to your point of view.

The Annapolis Partnership, through its Main Streets program, coordinates the
project. Beauty is transformative and flowering planters and hanging flower baskets throughout historic Annapolis make residents and visitors feel welcomed and safe. Studies show that visitors and shoppers will stay longer in an area that conveys beauty. In 2015, this was a nearly $50,000 project done in partnership with local businesses, residents, the City of Annapolis and Homestead Gardens and brought nearly 50 planters and 136 hanging baskets to the historic streets of Annapolis.

Wednesday, March 16
5:30 - 7:30 p.m.Our most anticipated Green Drinks of the year!
43 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville
Green Drinks will be held right in the middle of A Feast of Color, Homestead Garden's Annual Home & Garden Expo
Sponsor
Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay
and its programs
We're bringing our "fun side of eco-awareness... making serious connections" to Homestead Gardens in Davidsonville to celebrate spring during the garden's annual home & garden expo. This will be 8th spring Green Drinks at Homestead!
In order to bring you this terrific event, which includes fabulous food from Herrington on the Bay, we're asking for a donation
of $15 at the door. This includes one drink ticket, the generous appetizer buffet, and a discount coupon from Homestead, good for spring shopping.
Our venue will be beautiful! Homestead's talented team has created themed vignettes using thousands of flowers, shrubs, trees, furnishings and more to showcase nature's influence on how we live, work and play. From Sun and Sea and Scenic Meadows to Farm to Table and Backyard Living, you will be presented with an array of color, ideas, information and the tools you need to create your own "Feast of Color." Learn more.
Be sure to check out Homestead's newest initiative: Modern Homesteading -- it opens up great possibilities for those without yards. You can grow vegetables, herbs, foliage plants, and flowers inside all year! They'll show you how.
Sustainability
This will be a zero-waste event!
We will compost and recycle and there should be no landfill trash at all. All the drink cups used will be compostable as will the plates. The flatware will be recyclable. Our Eco-Stations will be refitted for recycling and composting. If you want to help reduce our waste, however, you always welcome to bring your own glass for wine, beer, or soft drinks.
Food & Drink
Delicious complimentary appetizers will once again be provided by Herrington on the Bay, Maryland's only Eco-Lifestyle Event Design and Catering Service. Every year, everyone raves about the fabulous food at the Green Drinks at Homestead. This year Chef Mike will serve up Small Plates ... Vegan, Vegetarian, and Low Sugar options -- all Fork to Table. And don't forget the crowd-pleaser desserts! We owe a huge thank you to Anna Chaney and her terrific staff. Read about Herrington's Eco-Lifestyle philosophy. Do yourself a favor and meet Anna Chaney, a South County leader in sustainable business and agriculture. She has some amazing things going on from the incredibly Green Herrington on the Bay site to the James Deale Permaculture site of Tiny Houses she has under development, to her Honey's Harvest Farm that hosts community based gatherings. Save the date for her second annual Family Farm Day: July 10.
Also joining us will be Rutabaga Craft Juicery, located in West Annapolis. Rutagaba is a new store serving healthy, locally-sourced, made-to-order cold-pressed juice, superfood smoothies, and healthy breakfast, lunch and snack items. Sample and get a discount coupons. Read about Rutabaga's "Eco-Cred." Our event sponsor, the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, has a lot of great programs, and we are featuring two that are coming us soon and looking for volunteers: Businesses for the Bay and Project Clean Stream. If you are looking for way for your business to give back to the community and the environment, look into Businesses for the Bay -- both online and by speaking with program coordinator Corinne Stephens at Green Drinks. And if you as an individual or as a member of a group want to get your hands dirty this spring, look into Project Clean Stream, a watershed-wide cleanup that can be scheduled from the end of March through May. Most projects are right around the first week in April and several are going on in our area. Talk with Joanna Freeman about this at Green Drinks or investigate online. Both Joanna and Corinne were interviewed on our radio program, Living Green in Annapolis, yesterday. You can hear the interview on our website. Also attending will be the Master Watershed Stewards to give you some info on YOUR watershed , folks from Four Rivers Heritage Area to give you info about Maryland Day (March 18-20), and artists from the Annapolis Arts Alliance with info about "Petite Green Squares," the first art exhibit to be hosted at the Annapolis Green House starting on April 10.
Spring Shopping
Green Drinkers will receive a discount coupon for shopping at Homestead Gardens, which will be open during our event.
Reminders
Homestead Gardens is only 12 miles (or 21 minutes) from downtown Annapolis. Please consider carpooling. And if you have a name tag from work, please bring it to help us cut down on purchases of the temporary plastic type. If you can help us set up or break down, please send us an email. We need several more sets of hands.
Don't miss the Annapolis Green trailer in the Homestead parking lot! Thanks to the generosity of owner Brian Riddle, we have the use of the trailer for storage and transport of our Eco-Stations to our Responsible Events & Festivals (REF) events. More about REF in a future email.
The next day is St. Patrick's.
