What are you giving up for Lent? How about plastic bags?
What are you giving up for Lent? How about changing your life a bit to reduce plastic in your home and workplace? Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake is supporting awareness of the need to protect our planet with a number of initiatives. | Read more. | These include support of the Community Greening and Cleanup Act (also known as the bag ban now in the Maryland General Assembly), and the more personal action to reduce use of plastic, at least during the lenten season.
Our society is now at the point where we can't live without plastic entirely, but we can cut down its use A LOT. As the Interfaith Partners say, "Developing an awareness an desire to do better is the first step, a prayer in itself." Try it! Click for some tips. It's easier than you think!

We couldn't have had a better celebration of Green Drinks Annapolis' 10-Year Anniversary last Tuesday!
Thank you to everyone on the big crowd who joined us at Pusser's Caribbean Grille at the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel and celebrated with us. It really warmed our hearts to see you all there and the congratulations were so appreciated.
February 2016 marked the 10-year anniversary of Green Drinks Annapolis, which started with just a few environmentally minded friends at what is now Blackwall Hitch. What a difference a decade has made! Now we are 100-200 strong and one of the most successful Green Drinks in the country. More importantly, Green Drinks Annapolis has become a community resource, a place to meet in person, exchange ideas, learn something new, and yes, add fun to our concern for the environment! And we certainly celebrated in great style! Photos by Ken Tom.
We had a great time with a huge crowd -- well over 100 people strong -- and even an anniversary cake.
Our theme demonstrated how the world of environmental awareness keeps evolving. It was a twist on the usual 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) like this:
Rejoice - On February 28, 2006, as a birthday present to herself, Lynne gathered about 20 people over a drink at the Rockfish (with warm memories of the late Charlie Bauer), now Blackwall Hitch. We even a few of the "Original Green Drinkers" from 10 years ago with us last week (that's Ted Weber with Lynne below), and Lynne had her original sign-in book. Revisit - The Annapolis Waterfront Hotel. Yes, although still affiliated with Marriott, it's now a part of the Autograph Collection. The hotel celebrated with us its uniqueness and amazing re-branding and interior redesign done by Reiter Interiors (see below). Our Green Drinkers were invited to revisit the hotel at our event and then and take a tour that showcased the clever re-purposing with a nod to local maritime lore! Thank you to hotel general manager Gary Burke and his staff. Learn more about the hotel's environmental initiatives. Our hosts at Pusser's: We could not have been in better hands than the staff of Glenn, Scott, Bobby, and Orlando headed up by Food & Beverage Director Mike Schwartz. The staff was fabulous and the appetizers were delicious! We could not have had a better team on our event. And we owe a big thank you to Hilary Peret, Senior Catering Sales Manager.
Pusser's has two special events coming in the next few weeks. A Patron Tequila Dinner this Friday, February 26, with our friends at Bay Ridge Wine & Spirits and featuring amazing food pairings. Check it out here.
And save the date for a special wine dinner coming up on March 11. Details to come.
Reuse - In this case, we were talking interior design and furnishing of our new office space. Reiter Interiors designers of the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel, is helping us make our office beautiful. We were glad to introduce Polly Reiter and Bobbi Nock to our Green Drinks crowd.
We hope you all had a chance to chat with Bryan Pax and his staff from Super Green Solutions, our event sponsor. SuperGreen Solutions is a retail provider of energy-efficient products and services for commercial and residential customers who want to address financial energy and sustainability goals.
Bryan held a drawing for a very cool solar lantern and the winner was Mary Hametz from Herrington on the Bay.
As a local franchise, SuperGreen Solutions is able to provide the service of a neighborhood store while maintaining the buying power and product selection of an international corporation, providing high-quality cutting-edge technology products to produce substantial energy savings. Products include LED lighting, solar panels, wind turbines, tankless water heating, water purification, Indow Windows and more.
Check the Super Green Solutions website for lots of useful information that can save you money while being good to the planet. And finally, thank you to our wonderful volunteers: Photographer Ken Tom and greeters Sandy Williamson, Karin Hannah Stern, and Jeanne Langdon. We toasted toast our fabulous community that has supported us for a decade, the twist of fate having the same designers that outfitted our original gathering space, and good things to come with updates on the Annapolis Green House that's taking shape right now.
Save the date for our next Green Drinks -- back to Homestead Gardens to celebrate spring on March 16!
