What are you giving up for Lent? How about plastic bags?
What are you giving up for Lent? How about changing your life a bit to reduce plastic in your home and workplace? Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake is supporting awareness of the need to protect our planet with a number of initiatives. | Read more. | These include support of the Community Greening and Cleanup Act (also known as the bag ban now in the Maryland General Assembly), and the more personal action to reduce use of plastic, at least during the lenten season.
Our society is now at the point where we can't live without plastic entirely, but we can cut down its use A LOT. As the Interfaith Partners say, "Developing an awareness an desire to do better is the first step, a prayer in itself." Try it! Click for some tips. It's easier than you think!

Rejoice, Revisit, Reuse!
Event Sponsor
We switched up the order of our three Rs to start with Rejoice, because that's the mood we're in -- ready to celebrate our 10th Anniversary and progress on the Green House (see below).
February marks the 10-year anniversary of Green Drinks Annapolis, which started with just a few environmentally minded friends at what is now Blackwall Hitch. What a difference a decade makes! Now we are 100-200 strong and one of the most successful Green Drinks in the country. More importantly, Green Drinks Annapolis has become a community resource, a place to meet in person, exchange ideas, learn something new, and yes, add fun to our concern for the environment!
So, we're twisting the usual 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) like this:
Rejoice - On February 28, 2006, as a birthday present to herself, Lynne gathered about 20 people over a drink at the Rockfish (with warm memories of the late Charlie Bauer), now Blackwall Hitch. We still have the original sign-in sheet which includes Suzanne Kilby (now Suzanne Etgen), Susan Shingledecker, Ted Weber, Donna Morrow, Kris Valerio (now Kris Shock), Carolyn Hill, and Amy Chase). So, calling all "originals," we'd love to recognize you at this 10th anniversary Green Drinks. Were you there when it all started? Come back and reminisce! Revisit - The Annapolis Waterfront Hotel. Yes, although still affiliated with Marriott, its now a part of the Autograph Collection. The hotel is celebrating its uniqueness and amazing re-branding and interior redesign done by Reiter Interiors and painting by Bill Addison's Painting Company. Learn more. Revisit the hotel and take a tour that showcases the clever re-purposing with a nod to local maritime lore! The Annapolis Waterfront Hotel is aware of its responsibility to protect our environment and invites its guests to consider participating in its eco initiatives. Learn more.
Reuse - In this case, we're talking interior design and furnishing of our new office space. While attending the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel's re-branding open house a few weeks ago, we met its amazing designers - Reiter Interiors. And, you guessed it, Reiter is helping us design the Annapolis Green House!
We'd like to welcome new Green Drinks event sponsor SuperGreen Solutions, a retail provider of energy-efficient products and services for commercial and residential customers who want to address financial energy and sustainability goals.
As a local franchise, SuperGreen Solutions is able to provide the service of a neighborhood store while maintaining the buying power and product selection of an international corporation, providing high-quality cutting-edge technology products to produce substantial energy savings. Products include LED lighting, solar panels, wind turbines, tankless water heating, water purification, Indow Windows and more.
So, come join us Tuesday! We'll toast our fabulous community, the twist of fate having the same designers that outfitted our original gathering space, and good things to come with updates on the Annapolis Green House that's taking shape right now.
