Top of the Line

It's been a WILD September with our Responsible Events & Festivals (Green REF) program. But we know that our hard work is paying off. Last week
The Capital wrote a big story about us and we won an award and had a big story about the Green REF (and us). Read the story online.

Also last week, we won the Green Business of the Year Award from the Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce during its 10th Anniversary Business Hall of Fame & Annual Business Awards Dinner at the Loews Hotel. We are so appreciative of this honor and so thrilled that we have connections with so many of the nominees and winners. Read more below.

Our electric car showcase, on Sept. 13, part of National Drive Electric Week, was a big hit. We had about 26 cars, and an electric SJ Koch Duffy Boat! Hundreds of people stopped by to learn about driving electric, mainly from private owners, and about solar power from Solar City. Now there's the dream: powering your electric car from the sun! Josh McKerrow of The Capital took these photos and video. Thank you also to Paul Jorgensen, Bob Bruninga, MarylandEV.org, and the Electric Vehicle Association of Greater DC. We also had great help from national sponsor Nissan and from SemaConnect, our local manufacturer of charging stations. If you want to know more about driving electric, send Elvia an email and she'll tell you about her experience.

The Green REF Keeps on Truckin'

In the past week or so we've brought recycling (and in some cases composting too) to several local special events, including:

Annapolis Hospice XXXIV Shore Party last Saturday, with sponsorship from Annapolis Green Dental: Holistic, Eco-Friendly Dentistry for Annapolis & the Baltimore-Washington Metro Area.

Annapolis Maritime Museum's Boatyard Beach Bash last Saturday, with sponsorship from Mercedes Benz of Annapolis and the BoatHouse Waterfront Grille in Canton. The BoatHouse is having a Bull & Oyster Roast on Saturday to benefit the Canine Warrior Connection. It will be held from 3 - 9 p.m. See details by clicking here.

The Maryland Avenue Fall Street Fest last Sunday.

Historic Annapolis' Blazers. Bourbon. Cigars. -- a gentlemen's event with sponsorship from The Golf Club at South River yesterday evening.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Design District will host Art in Action, a unique street party combining art, beautification, design, live music and oysters! Our Green REF program is providing recycling and we'd like to tank FastSigns of Annapolis for donating all the signage for the Greening aspect of the event. | Information

Chamber of Commerce Award

We won the Green Business of the Year Award from the Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce during its 10th Anniversary Business Hall of Fame & Annual Business Awards Dinner at the Loews Hotel. As the names for other awards were being read, we thought about how Annapolis Green really is connected to so many businesses and non-profits in town.

For example, Severn Savings Bank, the presenting sponsor, is one of our Founding One Hundred sponsors as is Dick Franyo (Boatyard Bar & Grill), one of the Business Hall of Fame Inductees.

Entrepreneur of the Year winner Dr. Michael Freedman, posts regularly to our Facebook page.

Brian Riddle (Homestead Gardens), nominee of the Don Riddle Corporate Citizenship Award, is one of our Founding One Hundred Sponsors.

Annapolis Rotary, winner of the Non-Profit of the Year Award, is a terrific partner with us in our Responsible Events & Festivals program.

In the Small Business of the Year Award category, both winner Bay Ridge Wine & Spirits & nominee FASTSIGNS of Annapolis are regular business partners of ours.

These relationships just underscore our deep connections to, and support for, the local businesses that make our community a vibrant, wonderful place to live and work. We are delighted to be among this august group!

Our program is based on sponsorship.
