Recap of the May 12 Green Drinks
Theme: Sea level rise -- it's coming.
How the City is Planning to Cope

The City of Annapolis is planning for sea level rise of as much as 2.5 feet by 2050. How will it affect you? We heard about that at Green Drinks at the Chart House Restaurant on May 12.

Our speakers included David Mandell, Senior Planner in the City of Annapolis Annapolis Office of Emergency Management office; Donna Ware, Vice President for Historic Preservation at the Historic Annapolis Foundation; and Michael Dowling, consulting architect with the City's Cultural Resources Hazard Mitigation planning process.

The Climate Stewards of Annapolis also made a presentation informing everyone of the efforts of this grass-roots group to raise awareness and do something about climate change.

Read the full recap of the evening's events.

We would li
ke to give a big thank you to the Chart House Restaurant, particularly Sales Manager Amy Paulin, for the hospitality. It was not easy for the staff to accommodate our large numbers (close to 200!) but they provided a generous amount of delicious appetizers and took good care
of us.

And congratulations to the Chart House as it became the State's 10th restaurant certified by Maryland Green Travel. We presented Regional Director Paul Broccolina with the official certificate!

The new renovations at the venerable restaurant are spectacular, and carried out in as Green a manner as possible. And the restaurant is continuing on that journey with a soon-to-be-implemented "Kitchen Video" that places orders without paper and perfectly timed to eliminate food waste. And... there may be an electric vehicle charging station in the future too.

The Annapolis Leukemia Cup Regatta and Rock the Dock Party with be Eastport Yacht Club's second "Gold Level" Clean Regatta (certified by Sailors for the Sea) and we are pleased to be able to help with that effort with sponsorship from the EYC Foundation and our newest Founding One Hundred supporters, Jack Morkan and Clare Vanderbeek. Organizers shared their exciting efforts with us at the May Green Drinks.

Since then we have learned that organizers will add an educational component for children to the Clean Regatta effort: Sailors for the Sea's Kids Environmental Lesson Plans (KELP). These are are fun, environmentally-minded and solution-oriented lesson plans created with informal educators in mind. These activities help students and educators understand what's beneath their hull and will educate the littlest sailors through to teens to become the next generation of ocean stewards. Kudos to EYC and the Leukemia Cup Regatta organizers for their forward-thinking!

Responsible Events & Festivals, our festival greening program (The Green REF), is getting to be well-known. Planners of regattas, foot races, rowing races, and more, are now asking us to help Green their events.
Our REF program is based on sponsorship.

We look for companies - in any sort of business - that would like to Make the Right Call and connect their brands to our recycling and composting educational efforts.

Sponsorship makes it possible to cover the expenses associated with making these good things happen! If you know of a company that might like to be a part of this exciting program, please contact us AND them. Tell them why you support Annapolis Green, put them in touch with us and we'll do the rest.

We also welcome corporate volunteers who can help us with set-up and break-down at REF events. A REF event could be a great team-building initiative for your company.

Together, let's turn the tide and make this Festival Season a Green one!

Watch for upcoming REF events:
