Lighting Up the Holidays with Green Drinks!
green drinks annapolis

Tuesday, Dec. 10
The Metropolitan
169 West Street, Annapolis

Free with a cash bar. No RSVP required.

Sponsoring Organization

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. And now, as we turn attention to the holiday season, it's time to upgrade the magic of twinkling holiday lights to energy-efficient LEDs. That's our Green Drinks theme this month.

It's a great time to do that since we're making it easy for you to save a few bucks on the purchase as well as the energy cost down the road that you'll enjoy with LEDs.

Thanks to our event sponsor Clean Currents (Our newest Founding 100 sponsor!), this December's Green Drinks is all about energy and lights! And you can participate by turning in your old ones. Read more below.

Our host, the Met, is powered by Clean Currents' wind power program (as are we). The Met has agreed to let us light up their lot next to Lemongrass. Watch as we "holiday-up" the area around those chickens! Oh, do stay tuned for our creation. Think of it as a preview to the EYC Lights Parade the following Saturday!

Also, we're in close contact with the Annapolis Jaycees, who are in charge of the "Hanging of the Greens" downtown on Dec. 7. We'll be working on the "Greening of the Hanging (Lights)!" Ok, bad pun but you follow our logic, right? We've invited the Jaycees to be our special guests at Green Drinks.

Here's the Deal

Bring in your incandescent light strings -- whether they work or not -- and folks from Mom's Organic Market will collect them for recycling. The incentive for you is that you'll receive a coupon to buy a new string online or at our favorite local hardware store, K&B True Value (a Founding 100 sponsor).

The closest MOM's is in Bowie, at 6824 Race Track Road. K&B True Value is located at 912 Forest Drive. Both stores have a lights recycling program in place already if you just can't wait -- our event just makes it a little more convenient for you!
  • If you take your old lights directly to MOM's (its program ends on Jan. 31) you'll receive a coupon for 30% off energy efficient decorative lighting at HolidayLEDs.com.
  • If you take your old lights directly to K&B True Value (its program ends Dec. 15), you'll get $4 off each new string of LED lights you buy there (limit 5).
  • If you bring your lights to Green Drinks you'll have your choice of coupons from either MOM's or K&B True Value! (Please remove light strings from boxes or packaging to facilitate recycling.)
Where Do Those Old Lights Go? -- Following the recycling drive, MOM's will box and ship all the old holiday lights we collect to a recycling facility in located Jackson, Michigan. There, the lights will be shredded and processed. The individual components (including pvc, glass and copper) will be separated to be recycled into new products.

Why LEDs? Does it matter? How much energy do they save? -- A lot. In general, LEDs use 90% less energy an an incandescent bulb to produce the same amount of light! Read more about LEDs. LEDs offer maximum light efficiency without the harmful by-products that come from other lighting solutions. LEDs are non-toxic and cost-effective. Plus, they last at least 10 times longer (and consume 90% less energy) than incandescent bulbs. In addition, they emit far less heat, which helps minimize the risk of fire. Not to mention, the bright, clean light from LEDs looks great!

So, help us light up the holidays... to benefit your pocketbook and the environment!

Cheers,

Elvia & Lynne

Small Business Saturday is Tomorrow

Tomorrow is a great day to support our local, independently owned small businesses. Did you know that for every $100 spent in a local business $68 stays in the local economy? Not so with big box chain stores.

Tomorrow merchants in downtown Annapolis and West Annapolis are offering special promotions and some will be valid until the end of the year. The MainStreets Annapolis Partnership has a listing. Click here.
Our Newest Founding One Hundred Sponsor!

We're so happy to welcome Clean Currents as our newest Founding One Hundred sponsor! This B-Corp company provides a way for you to support the clean wind power industry. #GivingTuesday

Annapolis Green is a participant in #GivingTuesday, a growing, annual movement that dedicates the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to giving back instead of over-spending and over-consuming our natural resources.

#GivingTuesday inspires personal and organizational philanthropy on a local and personal level and encourages giving to charitable initiatives. It's an organizing principle to support the creativity and energy of people all over the world to work together for good.
Annapolis Green is participating by introducing our "Keep Annapolis Clean, Green and Beautiful" initiative. We are working to become the second Keep America Beautiful Affiliate in Maryland. Learn more about Keep America Beautiful.

This will help us accelerate our community's efforts to recycle more and litter less. Our waterfront town deserves to be clean and Green! With your help we will be rolling out new programs to step up recycling at our area events/festivals and to initiate an anti-littering campaign in our area.

You can be part of this by donating to Annapolis Green on #GivingTuesday. With your donation you can become a Founding One Hundred sponsor, a web sponsor, an event sponsor, an eco-station sponsor at a special event, or take on Greening a festival whose mission aligns with your personal or corporate social responsibility mission! Give back to the community on #GivingTuesday... Give to Annapolis Green for a Clean, Green, and Beautiful City and a healthier environment. Here's how.

Have you had your Zeronet lighting assessment?
Did you know you can get paid to save energy?

Can  you recall the last time you had your building's lighting systems inspected by an energy efficiency expert? If the answer is negative, you're almost certainly paying too much to keep the lights on. Recent advances in CFL and LED technologies mean that most businesses pay triple what they actually need to for lighting!

Contact Zeronet USA - the commercial lighting division of Zerodraft Maryland - at 410-321-5930 for a free, no-obligation assessment of your small business or commercial lighting.
