Sponsoring Organization

Thinking of the upcoming holidays, and magic of twinkling holiday lights... and how those festive twinkles affect our electric bills, we've been pondering changing to LEDs. It's a great time to do that.. particularly if you can save a few bucks on the purchase as well as the energy cost down the road!

So, with the Winter Winds blowing -- and with thanks to our sponsor Clean Currents,  this December's Green Drinks is all about energy and lights!  Turning in the old and incentivizing you to buy the new --  LEDs!

Bring us those old lights for recycling... whether they work or now. Start your pile now. We're working with a couple of local businesses to come up with discounts to encourage you to replace those lights with energy-effiicent LEDs. Stay tuned for details about this.

But does it matter? How much energy do they save? A lot. In general, LEDs use 90% less energy an an incandescent bulb to produce the same amount of light!

At our host, the Met, is powered by Clean Currents' wind power program (as are we). The Met has agreed to let us light up their lot next to Lemongrass! Watch as we "holiday-up" the area around those chickens! Oh, do stay tuned for our creation. Think of it as a preview to the EYC Lights Parade the following Saturday!

Tell Us Your Stories!

We know you're made connections at Green Drinks. Some of your have started or clenched business deals. Some of you have met people in the environmental community that you likely would not have met otherwise. Others have made friendships. Others have recruited volunteers. Tell us how Green Drinks has affected you.

We're not looking for literature here -- just a few lines about how our almost-monthly networking events have changed you, your organization, your business.

Please drop us a line and tell us -- do it now while you're thinking of it. If you don't want us to use your name as we're compiling these, that's fine. Just let us know. Click here to send your email. Please... do it now!

Recycling:
The First Step Toward Stewardship

Thanks to sponsor Council, Baradel, Kosmeri & Nolan, we supplied eco-stations to the Annapolis and Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce's Holiday Mixer tonight at lovely  Homestead Gardens last night.

The result was 15 bulging bags of recycling and only two small bags of material for the landfill! Yay!

Homestead, the Chamber, and our sponsor recognize that recycling can be beautiful and is the least we can all do for clean water and a healthy Bay.

Thanks also to Anne Arundel County Public Works for providing a recycling dumpster specifically for this event.

We'd be glad to bring the recycling message to your next event. Let your customers know that recycling is part of your stewardship plan.

Did you know you can get paid to save energy?

If you've looked closely at a recent BGE electricity bill, you may have noticed that you're paying a monthly "EmPOWER Maryland" surcharge. This voter-approved program pays for a wide variety of residential, commercial and industrial efficiency initiatives - all with the goal of alleviating our need for costly new power plants.

Savvy homeowners and business owners across the state are putting this money back to work for them by using it for a wide variety of energy efficiency upgrades, including insulation, airsealing, LED lighting, efficient heating/cooling systems, and more.

Contact Zerodraft at 410-321-5936 to find out how we can help you take advantage of these funds to save energy at home and work.
