Top of the Line
You've probably figured out that we're taking a break from Green Drinks in August. It's not due to a lack of enthusiasm, but to the hard work we're doing planning for the fall.
We'll have a Green Drinks September date and location for you soon. Meanwhile, here's what's been going on:

Bringing a Bit of Green
to the Annapolis Rotary Crab Feast
Thanks to sponsorship from Severn Savings Bank, and a wonderful partnership with the Rotary Club of Annapolis, we were able to bring recycling and composting to the venerable " World's Largest Crab Feast" on August 2 at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, for the first time in its 68-year history. And although we started small this year with a pilot program in the Preferred Dining area only (about 25% of the overall event), the amount of material that was kept OUT of the landfill is impressive!
Results:
4500 pounds of compost and 20 bags of recycling!
Our partners at Veteran Compost collected the compostables, including food scraps, paper, crab shells and wooden mallets, and WasteStrategies collected recyclable plastics and cans. Graphic artist Ramon Matheu allowed us to use his Feast Responsibly (TM) image for our banners. It's the perfect image and the perfect message!
We are hoping to partner with Rotary again next year, this time Greening the entire event and making sure that everything is either composted or recycled! That will mean over 20,000 pounds of compostables and A LOT of recyclables diverted from the landfill track resulting in a Zero-Waste event!

Next Up:
Bringing Greening to the Boat Shows
We are well on our way to increasing recycling at the US Boat Shows this October -- both power and sail. Through a wonderful partnership with the Boat Shows' management and grants from the BoatUS Foundation and BGE, you'll see even more eco-bins throughout both shows. And, behind the scenes, we are working to help keep other materials, such as exhibitor carpeting, out of the landfill. Stay tuned!Cheers,
Lynne & Elvia
