Top of the Line
We had a great time at Brian Boru last Tuesday as we brought Annapolis North to Severna Park and we're looking forward to some fun events this weekend including:
- Bike to Work Day - tomorrow
- Hike at the Severn Riverkeeper's Cabin Branch restoration project - Saturday
- RainScaping Garden Tour, organized by the Anne Arundel Watershed Stewards Academy and the Chesapeake Conservation Landscaping Council - Sunday
- SERC Family Days - Saturday & Sunday
And don't forget to nominate your favorite business for the Leadership Anne Arundel Flagship Class' R3 Awards. The deadline is tomorrow. See the sidebar.
Here's a recap of the last Green Drinks gathering.
The theme of our Green Drinks event at Brian Boru in Severna Park was Lighting and Energy Efficiency.
From the Maryland Clean Energy Center, our generous event sponsor, we learned about how it is building and advocating for programs that help achieve energy efficiency with consumer project financing, business financing, tax incentives, workforce development -- including Green jobs -- and training, and R&D funding. The Maryland Clean Energy Center was featured in our May 8 radio show, Living Green in Annapolis. Have a listen to learn more.As part of the Governor's Smart, Green, and Growing Initiative, the Maryland Home Energy Loan Program helps Marylanders take control of their energy future and stimulate new "green collar" jobs. This new initiative uses private capital for energy efficiency investment and encourages Marylanders to invest in their homes, reduce their energy bills, support economic development and job creation, and minimize their environmental impact. Click here to learn more about how to finance your Green project. We offered a hearty welcome to members of the Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce, headed up by Chamber CEO Linda Zahn. The chamber was our partnering organization, and just going to a different part of town brought quite a few "First Timers." We hope they will come back to Green Drinks when we had back to Annapolis. Thanks to our friends at MISEA Group of LED lighting and safety products, a representative of Fawcett Boat Supply was on hand with a display of the latest energy efficient lighting products for boats. Some of them were "packaged" in "wine-glasses..." so appropriate for Green Drinks. MISEA Group, whose motto is "Be Safe, Be Seen, Be Green," has a 10% sale underway now of LED interior and navigation lights for boats at Fawcett Boat Supply. Click to learn more. Brian Boru's staff was fabulously attentive and passed delicious appetizers -- most made from locally sourced ingredients. Brian Boru is a Maryland Green Travel partner along with its sister restaurants, Killarney House and Galway Bay. In fact, the Irish Restaurant Group was the first Maryland Green Travel partner in the state! The company has some of the most sustainable operating practices we've ever seen. Read more about Brian Boru's. We were very pleased to bring our Green Drinkers to Brian Boru! Courtesy of Clean Currents, we were able to award two door prizes -- a gift certificate to Brian Boru, and a cruise for two aboard the Schooner Woodwind. Sailing ... wind power ... that's energy efficiency! If you are wondering about the energy efficiency of your home or business, this is the time to call Infrared Tools Energy Services for a performance audit. It's well worth the investment to make your property as energy efficient as it can be!
No where else in the area will you meet so many eco-minded people from all aspects of our environmental and business community.
Come join in and see what all the buzz is about at our next Green Drinks, Tuesday, June 11. We will host the 2013 Maryland Green Registry Leadership Awards at the Westin Annapolis Hotel. Details are on our website and we'll have more information for you in our next email.
Cheers,
