Do you care about Clean Water?
The County's Stormwater Utility bill is under attack. Take a moment to do your part.
It's vitally important that we let County Executive Laura Neuman know right now that we want her to sign the Stormwater Utility Bill, 2-13.
There are people who want her to veto this bill even though making stormwater improvements IS A STATE MANDATE. We will either pay for stormwater improvements now or later, but we will have to pay for all the mistakes that were made in the past that have resulted in stormwater pollution in our streams, rivers and Bay. If we wait there will be all sorts of legal issues and it will be sure to cost more while our streams, rivers and Bay get worse.
Please, send an email to Laura Neuman urging her to sign the bill. Email her at lneuman@aacounty.org. Put "Please sign stormwater bill 2-13" in the subject line.
Both The Capital and the Baltimore Sun have come out in favor of the bill. Click above to read those editorials to learn more.
Take just a few minutes to do this. It will make a difference.

Top of the Line
Happy Earth Week!
We kicked things off in a grand way at Monday's Green Drinks at the Rockfish
The celebration of our home planet began in 1970 and now more than 190 countries join in with various commemorations and events. We can't imagine that any could be more fun than ours.
No where else in the area will you meet so many eco-minded people from all aspects of our environmental and business community. Come join in and see what all the buzz is about!

Thanks so much to the BoatUS Foundation
for awarding us a Grassroots Grant! Alana Keating from the Foundation presented us with a $10,000 ceremonial check at Green Drinks so we can begin to beef up recycling at waterside events such as the US Boat Shows in the fall!
Commercial Recycling Awards - Our event sponsor, the Leadership Anne Arundel 2013 Flagship Class announced its R3 Commercial Recycling Awards at our event. Nominations are now open for businesses that are leaders in Reducing, Reusing and Recycling (R3) and self-nominations are ok too. The awards will be presented in June. Click here for the nomination form.
Alderman Announces Intention to Run for Office - We were so honored that Annapolis Ward 5 Alderman Jared Littmann, one of our Founding One Hundred sponsors, chose our event to announce that he will run for the City Council seat to which he was appointed earlier this year. The City Council primary election will be he held on Sept. 17 and the General Election on No v. 5. Jared's website, under development, is annapolisward5.com. See a story about the announcement in The Capital.
Rockfish Stormwater Retrofit - We also presented information about The Rockfish's parking lot stormwater retrofit, a project with the Spa Creek Conservancy that will break ground this summer. We'll keep you up to date on its progress.
Annapolis Green Receives Donations -
Did you enjoy the Beer Week part of Green Drinks? We were really pumped up to have representatives from three of the local or organic beers presented in the sampling join us, including Boulevard, New Belgium and Flying Dog. Don't forget that you can learn more about these brewers on our website. Just click here. Annapolis Beer Week was designe d as a fun week of diverse beer-related events and support of area charities... and that includes us! We benefited from the beer samplings sold at Green Drinks and we will benefit from tickets purchased to Laughs and Drafts at the Maryland National Guard Armory on Saturday if Green Drinkers use this promo code to buy tickets online: Green_Drinks. Tickets are $45 with unlimited beer samples or $20 general admission only. Use the promo code to get $5 off your admission AND Annapolis Green will get a $15 donation! For more info about Laughs and Drafts click here.
Thank you, Rockfish! - How about those appetizers prepared by Rockfish Chef Chad Wells? Everybody raved about the "invasive" dishes he presented including Wild Boar meatballs and Blue C atfish. We're working on an all-invasives dinner in the future with Chef Chad. That will be a treat! In the meantime, you can enjoy several dishes made with invasive species on The Rockfish's menu including Snak ehead Ceveche, Snakehead Tacos, and Wild Boar Sliders.
Thank you so much to the entire management and wait staff team at the Rockfish! We could not have had better hosts.
And, thanks to Chef Chad for bringing us the delightful live music of Kevin Kelley! Follow Kevin and his music on his Facebook page.

This Weekend
"Think Inside the Box" ...Wine Tasting Boater Friendly/Eco Friendly Packaging
87 Main Street
Saturday & Sunday, April 27 & 282-7 p.m.during the Annapolis Spring Boat Show
Annapolis Green and Mills Fine Wine & Spirits are delighted to offer boaters and wine enthusiasts an extensive, free tasting of wines packaged in boater friendly and eco friendly formats on Saturday, April 27, at Mills during the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show. Annapolis Green volunteers will be pouring!
The tasting will feature a variety of white, red, and sparkling wines--everything from Chardonnays to Malbecs to Moscatos--packaged in mainly paper-based, recyclable 3 liter boxes and Tetra Pak cartons in a variety of sizes (1 liter, 500 ml, and 250 ml) as well as some in recyclable aluminum cans.
Learn from Annapolis Green and Mills team members at this tasting about the environmental benefits of less energy and waste involved in the production, transport, and disposal of alternative (non-glass bottle) wine packaging.
For example, according to Tetra Pak, wines packaged in their cartons use 92% less packaging and 35-40% fewer trucks to deliver the same amount of wine when compared to glass bottles. And, the additional benefits of non-glass packaged wines for boaters include reduced weight on board and no rolling bottles creating potential hazards.
Alternatively packaged wines also represent great values for wine consumers (A 3-liter "bag in the box" wine for $20-25 is the equivalent of four 750 ml wine bottles). All such wines will be discounted at Mills during the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show!
Mills will keep pouring these wines on Sunday, April 28, during the Spring Sailboat Show! It is time to "think inside the box" when it comes to boating, the environment, and wines!
