Get Your Hands Dirty for Clean Water
this Weekend
Read more below about Project Clean Stream
If you want clean water, ACT!

We hope you'll join the many volunteers all over the Chesapeake watershed this weekend who will participate in Project Clean Stream -- picking up and digging out trash from our shorelines. It's going to be great weather to get our hands dirty. More info is below.

In the meantime, we sure to save the  date for our next big Green Drinks gathering.

Monday, April 22

Live Music by Kevin Kelley

This edition of Green Drinks -- held on Earth Day -- will have multiple themes having to do with sustainability and stormwater treatment! We're delighted to be returning to The Rockfish, where Green Drinks Annapolis began on February 2006.

Themes

Commercial Recycling

leadership anne arundelOur event sponsors, the 2013 Flagship Class of Leadership Anne Arundel, will introduce its Commercial Recycling awards -- to be presented in June. The public will be invited to nominate a business that stands our for its commitment to recycling and a waste hauling company. Details will be presented at Green Drinks.

Stormwater Retrofit

Our partnering organization, the Spa Creek Conservancy, and our hosts, The Rockfish, will present information about the long-awaited retrofit of the restaurant's paring lot to control stormwater runoff into Spa Creek. The Conservancy was awarded a grant to design a stormwater retrofit for the restaurant's large parking lot. The design includes porous concrete, rain gardens, air conditioning condensate collection, rain barrels, and other features that will lead to a cleaner Spa Creek. The restaurant will match the grant funds that will be obtained for construction. After several years of resolving permitting and other issues, the project is scheduled to begin this summer. It will be a model project in the Eastport neighborhood in the City of Annapolis.

Annapolis Beer Week
Green Drinks coincides with Annapolis Beer Week,a fu n week of diverse beer-related events that will support area charities, our community and local businesses while featuring craft beers. Green Drinks is one of the week's events - featuring organically made or local beers - and Annapolis Green is one of the benefiting non-profits!

Green Drinkers will have the opportunity to buy a flight, or a sampling, of the featured beers for $20, with $5 going directly to Annapolis Green! There is a lot more information about our event, including the five featured Green beers, on our website. We'll even have live music by Kevin Kelley.

Award-winning Rockfish Executive Chef Chad Wells is cooking up a terrific offering of appetizers too. Check out the photo of him and a snakehead on our website! We'll have more details about Green Drinks in future emails -- save the date!

Now get out there, enjoy the great weather, and do your part by cleaning up a stream near you. Read more below.

Cheers,

Lynne & Elvia

From Pennsylvania to Virginia, over 5000 volunteers will be working tomorrow (and other days too) to do just that. Businesses, neighborhood associations, clubs... all can  participate. Let's show some love to our waterways! Here's a handy list of where the clean-ups are in our area. | Or see the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay's website.
