Top of the Line
Today is the last day to vote for Annapolis Green!
A cold, rainy night ... the perfect thing to do is cast your Vote for the Hometown Crew!
All votes must be in before midnight tonight, March 6.
In December, Annapolis Green applied for a Grassroots Grant from the BoatUS Foundation. The selection committee selected us and six other organizations from around the country as finalists. | Read more about our grant application.
And we need help. We are certainly an underdog. If we pull in a respectable number of votes as well as create some great social media buzz, we still have a chance of being awarded $10,000 to help us expand our greening efforts at the Annapolis Boat Shows! Thank you for taking a moment ... and asking a friend to do the same:
- VOTE - http://shout.lt/gpnv
- FACEBOOK - Please post "Rock the Vote" for Annapolis Green's Red Right Recycle campaign with link to the voting site, http://shout.lt/gpnv, on YOUR Facebook page
- TWEET & RETWEET - Help @annapgreen win $10K Grassroots Grant from @BoatUSFdn for its Red Right Recycle campaign at Boat Shows in Annapolis & more
Our competition includes two groups that have competed in this before, and three are national groups.
Help us show that we have grassroots support and that we all care about clean water!

Thank you for a fabulous Green Drinks in February
Looking forward to March in the Garden
Last Wednesday's "Have a Green Heart" Green Drinks was a fabulous night for all involved. Great, Green passion was on full display with a super crowd, incredible hospitality, and delicious food and drink at the Bistro at South River.
Our hosts, the Brick Companies, are one of the area's pioneering and leading sustainability businesses. Read more on our website, but here's just one of the many things they do for the environment: The 12 x 12 Initiative - 2010-2012 every employee pledged and achieved reducing the companies energy usage by 12% across all TBC properties. And for the many who were introduced to the Bistro at our event and for those who couldn't make it: The Bistro at South River is a terrific bar and restaurant and is open to the public. The Great Room (brand new and built with many Green features, looks like it dropped in from the Adirondacks) is ready for your next group event. The Golf course is private, for members only.
This Green Drinks was sponsored by the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, and the event focused on building a groundswell of participation in the Alliance's Project Clean Stream, a watershed-wide clean up event to be held on or near the date of April 6 at more than 200 sites from New York to
Virginia.
We want to get your Green hearts all "pumped up" to do your part for just one day to help clean up a waterway in your neck of the woods. Get your hands dirty! Businesses, neighborhood associations, clubs... all can participate. In the next few weeks we'll have more information on how you can find a nearby group to join in their clean-up or how you can start your own. Let's show some love to our waterways! Thank you so much to the Fiddle Oaks. They donated their time and wonderful bluegrass talent to our event, making it truly festive.
Quite a few of our Green Drinkers gave it their best shot and entered the 50/50 Putt for Green Contest. The 50/50 was won by Michael Wagener, who sank the putt! And he was so generous ... he donated his winnings back to us! Thank you, Michael!

And on to March in the Garden!
Green Drinks Annapolis
Wednesday, March 20
5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Homestead Gardens
743 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville
What would March Green Drinks be without our annual pilgrimage to our very own Homestead Gardens in Davidsonville!
Great Location
By March (especially today) we are SO ready for spring greenery and flowers. Join us, appropriately, on the first day of Spring, Wednesday, March 20th for the Annual Open House!
Our theme and Homestead's is .... "Cherish the Chesapeake." More than a local treasure, the Chesapeake is lifestyle. We will celebrate Homestead's 40th year, its commitment to being a leader in our local Green economy and explore and learn how we all can do the same in our gardening, landscaping and living by the Bay. Learn more about Homestead's efforts.
This Open house will be going on all week. We encourage you to check out the terrific schedule that includes our very own Rita Calvert teaching us more about Sustainable Agriculture and its Importance. We'll have the complete schedule our website calendar soon.
Great Food
And, we will be flanked by other longtime favorites. Our catering partners from Herrington on the Bay Eco-Lifestyle Resort and Mills Fine Wine & Spirits. Last year we introduced the then-new Honey's Harvest Market and Deli (also offering caterering). It's a must-stop if you are in South County! Mills will have a treat for us with local wines and beers... stay tuned!
Great Partners
Our sponsor this month is also a fabulous fit -- our friends from the Chesapeake Bay Trust. And the first thing we think about with CBT are the iconic Bay Plates. Do you have them? Do you know what how this works and the projects that are a result of them?
We're putting on a Bay Plates Challenge... just how many of us will arrive with these plates on our cars? More details on our Challenge in the next email.
Our Partnering Organization is is the Anne Arundel Watershed Stewards Academy -- the army of volunteers working in their own neighborhoods on projects that really do make a difference!
And finally, we'll have a number of exhibits from a terrific group of folks and organizations you'll want to meet as you get ready to tackle your springtime planting and gardening!
Green Drinks strives to bring the environmental message to new audiences, so bring along your friends, colleagues, family... everybody... to March's Green Drinks Annapolis at Homestead Gardens, on March 20.
As always, it's free with a cash bar (soft drinks available), and no RSVP is required.
