Happy Valentines Day!
Save the date for our "Have a Green Heart" Green Drinks event

Wednesday, Feb. 27
5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
The Golf Club
at South River

3451 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater

We're bringing our "fun side of eco-awareness... making serious connections" to the very Green, brand-new Great Room at the Brick Companies' Golf Club for our networking happy hour for those who are passionate about the environment. Our hosts, the Brick Companies, are one of the area's pioneering and leading sustainability businesses. (We'll have information on what makes the Great Room Green in our next email and on our website.)

The theme of this Green Drinks is "Have a Green Heart."

Green Drinks this month is being sponsored by the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, and the event will focus on building a groundswell of participation in the Alliance's Project Clean Stream, a watershed-wide clean up event to be held on or near the date of April 6 at more than 200 sites from New York to
Virginia.

We want to get your Green hearts  all "pumped up" to do your part for just one day to help clean up a waterway in your neck of the woods. Businesses, neighborhood associations, clubs... all can  participate. In the next few weeks we'll have more information on how you can find a nearby group to join in their clean-up or how you can start your own. Let's show some love to our waterways!

As a special treat, we'll have live music at Green Drinks -- the Fiddle Oaks. The band masquerades during the day as employees of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. If you went to last year's Taste of the Chesapeake, you heard their fabulous country-bluegrass-bluesy sound. We are so excited to have them join us!

Green Drinks strives to bring the environmental message to new audiences, so bring along your friends, colleagues, family... everybody... to February's Green Drinks Annapolis!

As always, it's free with a cash bar (soft drinks available), and no RSVP is required.

~~~~~~~
We want to welcome, recognize and thank our brand-new Founding 100 sponsors, Betty and Jim Davis. And a double thank you to Tom Boyer of Infrared Tools Energy Services for surprising us with an additional Founding 100 donation. That makes him an F100-squared! Thank you so much for your support! You, too,  can join our community of Founding 100 supporters. See the sidebar to learn more.
Cheers,
Elvia & Lynne
Environmental Legislation Affects Us All
State Legislation
Annapolis Green is doing its part to keep you informed on the issues through the web, our radio show, and Green Drinks.
On the web, please have a look at our General Assembly page for links that will keep you informed. On the radio, we are delving into most of the important legislative issues in our weekly program, Living Green in Annapolis.
You can listen to these past programs right from our website by clicking here.
  • Environmental Outlook for the 2013 Legislative Session
  • 2013 Legislative Session Environmental Issues: Offshore Wind and Hydraulic Fracturing
  • 2013 Legislative Session Environmental Issues: Smart on Pesticides
On March 6 we will cover the Community Clean Up and Greening Act -- proposals to charge for plastic and paper bags and to set a deposit on beverage containers. Listen to Living Green in Annapolis on WNAV at 1430AM, 99.9FM in the City or streaming live at wnav.com.
This will be a critical year for clean air and water. Do stay informed on bills to be presented and issues to be discussed and to do your part for the environment and our communities by letting your legislators know how you feel about strong environmental policy. If you're not sure who represents you, find out at this website.
County Legislation
On Feb. 19, two bills will come before the County Council that are important to the environment.
-- An ordinance concerning Stormwater Management - Watershed Protection and Restoration Special Revenue Fund and Program
-- An Ordinance concerning Subdivision and Development - Zoning-Critical Area
Read more on the Maryland League of Conservation Voters' Anne Arundel Chapter's website and contact your Councilman to let him know how you feel about these bills.
Cork Recyling: A Success!
You've been bringing us your corks so we thought we'd give you a bit of a report.
So far we've recycled over 38 pounds of corks and there's another shipment ready to go! These will be made into shoes, flooring and other materials instead of being lost in a landfill.
So keep it up! And don't be shy... ask your friends and favorite bar or restaurant to turn the corks over to you for our campaign. Bring us your corks and we'll put them to good use!
