NEW LOCATION
Phillips Crab Deck

We're gathering tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Phillips Crab Deck on City Dock for a uniquely themed Green Drinks: Gifts that Give Back!
Since the holiday season is getting into gear, we thought we'd present you with some alternative gift ideas -- gifts that will make your recipients happy AND are good for the Earth and local businesses.
Phillips, one of the most iconic seafood restaurants linked to the Bay, returned this past season to Annapolis as the "Crab Deck." It's a great space, great views, causal and fun ... we'll take over the deck with our event. Phillips staff is working hard to make us feel welcome and will come up with appetizers that will entice you to stay for dinner.
We will showcase local, creative, "out of the box" Green gifts - from environmental non-profits, B-Corps, and Green for-profit companies. For the person who has everything ... or, if you're like us, always ending up getting a gift for ourselves while shopping for others! Whichever, it will make you feel good.
'Tis the Season for Sustainability!
Our exhibitors include:
- A Cook's Cafe
- Annapolis Maritime Museum
- Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company
- Clean Currents
- Cleaning Corps
- Diane Holland, author
- Infrared Tools Energy Services
- National Wildlife Federation
- Oyster Recovery Partnership
- South River Federation
- Urban Adventures
So here are some ideas:
Clean Currents will have a photo booth set up so you can have your photo taken with a wind turbine backdrop. They will post your photo on their social media sites and you'll receive a reusable Clean Currents bag. But even better, why not give yourself the gift of wind power? You'll be able to sign up on the spot and support the clean power of wind for your home. Your electric bill will NOT go up, you'll feel great about doing your bit for the planet, and Annapolis Green will receive a $25 donation! Annapolis Green is powered by Clean Currents, join us!
Give people you care about another way to save on their power bills -- give them a gift of an energy audit from Infrared Tools Energy Services!
Think of our event as a prelude to the Annapolis Business Association's Shop Local Day on November 24 that includes rewards for shoppers in the form of gift cards and more. See info in the left column.
And on a national level, Giving Tuesday is November 27. Charities, families, businesses and individuals are being asked to come together to transform the way people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. Through this effort your family, your community, your company or your organization can join in acts of giving to encourage giving more, giving better and giving smarter. Find out more.
Don't forget your name badges and nay corks you'd like to recycle. Let's have some fun and do some good for the Earth too!
See you tomorrow!
Elvia & Lynne

Volunteers needed to teach kids about the environment!
The Museum, in partnership with Anne Arundel County Public Schools, NOAA, Chesapeake Bay Savers and Maryland's DNR, has launched its innovative 2012-2013 Oyster Environmental Literacy Program for 6th grade students from four area middle schools. What the Museum needs now is outgoing, enthusiastic and committed volunteers throughout the school year. Knowledge of oyster ecology is helpful, but not required because training will be provided for each session. The hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and you can choose from any number of dates. The Museum is asking volunteers who will commit at least five days within a five-week period.
Over the course of the school year, more than 1,000 sixth-graders will receive 20 hours of instruction in the classroom, at the Museum, and out on the water. The program examines human interaction with the environment, oyster ecology and industry, and the measurement and tracking oyster spat and water quality. As a volunteer you'll be proud to participate in Maryland's new, cutting-edge Environmental Literacy Initiative - and you'll add to your own knowledge about oysters and the Chesapeake Bay!
