Clay Squared December Newsletter

This has been an exciting year for us!  Layl has traveled to arts festivals and has taught in Florida, the island of Grenada, Iowa, Wisconsin, Colorado, Kansas, and Missouri. And now she has plans go to even more states in the coming year.

Josh was commissioned to create dozens of wonderful fireplaces, bathrooms, kitchens and art murals this year.

We are grateful for all of the opportunities our patrons have given us, through commissions and purchases in 2015. Thanks to all of you who follow us on social media, "like" our work, and share it with your friends.

We look forward to 2016 adventures. Stay 'tooned!

Jade Waterfall Shower

Jade Waterfall Shower

Taking a shower in a deep Jade Green tiled room (from the Mid-century historic series) is a luscious experience. Josh worked with the homeowner to create a stunning design effect at a low cost.  Thin pencil liners (3/4" x 6") in a mix of Jade Moss and Avocado make up the cascading mosaic under the shower head and faucet.

Layl's Creating "Dolls" Again
If you have followed Layl's work over the years you will remember many varieties of doll-like pieces.  Back in the beginning of her career she made fabric dolls with painted faces, arms and hair.  These were very popular and sold all over the country to shops and galleries but eventually she moved into the world of polymer clay and gave up the sewing machine.  After that, some of her first, larger works in polymer were figurative doll-like characters of which she made many varieties.
Now Layl is again excited about a new series of figurative doll pieces which incorporate her drawings.  The same day this idea popped into her head, one of her daughter's friends posted a selfie on Instagram. Layl drew her face and added that drawing to one of her first pieces.  She has now drawn more faces which will eventually become figurative dolls.  The piece below, "Art Nouveau Goddess," along with another figure, will be part of a juried show at the Museum of Wisconsin Art from January 30th to March 27th, in Milwaukee.  Come see the show!
