In our current world of technology, it is hard to always keep up with all of the options of social media and the like. Layl and Josh have seen a huge change in how Facebook displays our work and even who gets to see it. As a result, we both have been playing with other types of social media and have determined that Instagram is the new winner!

Josh is concentrating on showcasing his art tiles and the process of making tiles. Layl has been showcasing her sculptures as well as images that inspire her, including photos taken in a junkyard and closeups of fabric designs. We both will still continue to post on Facebook, but if you have not been seeing our work pop up in your newsfeed, check out our Instagrams to see what's new here.

Project of the Month
David Heide Design Studio designed this kitchen

The original kitchen in this bungalow was typical of its era: very small, and traversed by traffic from three doorways. With only four ft of 30-inch-high counter space, this busy little kitchen was less than ideal. The clients dreamed of a functional, modern kitchen, yet wanted to stay within the original style of the period.

Corners of kitchens are always challenging spaces to design. They are sometimes big, but you can often only put objects like toaster ovens or knives in one direction. This kitchen, in contrast, has a nice, open display of dishes and a mosaic trim that allows objects to be moved without obscuring the patterns.

The Next Generation Helps Out
Photoshopped image by Daycia
Layl and Josh's daughter, Daycia, was a whiz on the computer this summer. She has made magic with Photoshop, turning iPhone photos into masterpieces. These images will be very useful for applying to art fairs.
Daycia has also been the queen of iMovie, helping Layl edit her one-hour video for the next Polymer Clay Adventure.  (More info coming soon!)
AND Daycia is building Layl her own website; check back next month to see how it all comes together.
How lucky are Josh and Layl to have a daughter with such great skills?  She gives them more time to play in their studios (and less time working on the computer).
Best news of all?  Daycia will be attending the University of Minnesota this fall, so she won't be too far away when Josh and Layl want more help.
