Greetings!
The winter months at Clay Squared have typically been a great time for Layl and Josh to reflect on the past year and start planning out goals and ideas for the coming year.

Josh is considering writing some proposals to clay centers and galleries around the country to showcase some of the new concepts he has been working on with the Cosmic Cloud Series. Josh has been testing out multiple shape and optical illusions with tiles, temporarily referred to as Transformer Tiles.
Group of 9 designs all from the same four tiles
Layl is applying to multiple art fairs for 2013 and is looking for places to show her larger pieces.  After last year's big burst of production she has many pieces that need to be out there in the world being enjoyed.
Winter is also a good time of the year to focus on online marketing.  Layl is updating all her new large pieces on the website.  You can read about how each piece was conceived and then created.

Winner of Best of 2013 on Houzz!

Clay Squared has won a "Best of Houzz 2013" award.  We were selected for  work in the Design category because our portfolio includes some of the most popular images on Houzz in 2012! Thanks to all that saved our images into your favorites. Check out our page  click here. This single image seemed to put us over the top with over 13,500 people selecting it for their idea books!

Tile project of the month

In November we profiled Josh's project for Regions Hospital for patients with violent or troubled pasts. Josh made eight pieces to choose from. Victoria Hovde loved them all but she could only choose three. Below are the final selected works, framed. Each piece of the triptych is 15" x 15"  and was selected by Victoria Hovde of Dorsey Hovde Art Associates for the art installation.  The ribbon cutting was in late December.

The work was designed with the patients in mind, to give them a nondescript, but familiar, feel to the pieces. Regions Hospital was looking for something with texture that the patients could touch, but installed so they can not hurt themselves or others. At this moment some of Layl's large pieces are on display at Coloplast, a medical device company across the Mississippi River from our studio.  She is showing with painter Cynthia Starkweather-Nelson.  This space is not open to the public but Layl is excited to have a new and unusual audience for her art.
If you know any other businesses or galleries that you think could use some fun art for a month or so let Layl know.
