Zambia, here we come!
Later this spring, my daughter and I will accompany Dr. Clawson on our fourth annual trip to Zambia for a cleft lip and palate mission trip.
It truly is a small world, as I meet others with links to Zambia. I'm facebook friends with one of the World Vision Zambia leaders, and he has been kind enough to get the word out to his World Vision contacts, so we are hopeful to have a large group of children to help. I first met this man at a Walk for Water fundraiser in Lake Oswego, raising awareness and money to provide clean drinking water to Zambian villages.
The 2014 Walk for Water fundraiser is on April 12th in Lake Oswego.

| Sharing Life's Ups and Downs
I enjoy so many things about practicing medicine, but topping the list is that I get to know many of my patients really well over many years. This type of ongoing relationship allows me the joy of hearing about new babies and grandbabies, upcoming weddings, graduations and reunions. I also hear about the struggles including divorce, loss of spouses and serious medical problems.
I particularly enjoy the celebration when one of my patients has completed chemotherapy or radiation treatments and is ready to refresh herself and embrace life in all its fullness. I play a tiny role in helping these patients with improved self esteem, self confidence and to help them look like themselves again. It is one of the most rewarding things I do in this practice. We all have challenges in life and it is nice to be able to walk along side our friends, relatives, and our patients to make things a little nicer.
