Our lips are such an important, highly visible window to our personality. They are key to effective communication, expressivity, loving smiles and kisses.

As we age, women lose lip volume and often develop vertical lines or creases. Sometimes these creases are thought to be due to smoking (which isn't the only cause of lip lines, but can make them much worse), but often they are just due to expressions, facial movement, sun damage and loss of volume with age and hormone changes.

Whether you are bothered by smaller lips than you used to have, vertical lip lines, or you simply inherited mom's thin upper lip, there are options to improve your lips and preserve a natural appearance and function.  I often hear women voice concerns about whether injections will make their lips look too big. Certainly, we've all seen badly done lips (from Hollywood stars to our next door neighbors), but this is not what you should expect. Juvederm, Restylane and Belotero are great for lip augmentation, while Belotero is a great choice for filling the vertical lip lines. Often Botox or Xeomin are used to slightly weaken the upper lip to help prevent worsening of the creases. Finally, some patients opt for laser resurfacing to stimulate collagen and reduce the appearance of upper lip lines.
