Greetings!

Happy New Year!

Despite my best laid plans to write you a beautiful greeting for this 2015, I find myself at home sick in bed with a cold. And so, I'm listening to my body as it tells me that I need another week of rest.  And that's what I'm doing.  May you too experience the love and grace of your own deep listening, even when what you hear isn't what you expected or wanted.

Namaste,

Musings from Our Teachers
A Place to Start by Lani Jelen

The New Year is a good place to start, it is a marker, a place to begin. I often hear, in November and December, people I know saying,"I will start after the New Year." I think it is a good idea to say it during the busy season which can sometimes feel overwhelming. By saying it we remind ourselves and reminding ourselves we give ourselves the little inward push to do the things that bring us more toward total health. We have all heard that today is the first day of the rest of your life which is true and it is also helpful for our inward planner to have a longer more significant starting point. Days can pass and get lost and another comes along. The New Year is big. Everything that takes precedence for a few months is now finished and there is space and impetus to make a new beginning.

Do You Know...

About our Advanced Studies Program?

Whether you are a committed student who is ready to dive a little deeper into yoga with an Immersion, you want to explore the possibility of sharing yoga with others or you know you want to bring yoga to the masses, our Advanced Studies program can support you.

This year we have made some changes that we are really excited about.

The program is still run and primarily taught by Leslie and will support you in both deepening and broadening your yoga practice through intensive study of yoga history and philosophy as well as giving you longer yoga asana workshops where you get to really progress your practice. In addition, you have the opportunity to study both physical and energetic anatomy and to learn about yourself and grow from a yoga framework.

Advanced studies takes your weekly class practice and your home practice to a whole new level as you have an enriched context within which to approach your practice.

Having difficulty starting or sustaining a home practice? The Immersion will help you by teaching you things like skillful sequencing and theming your practice. Students routinely report that they get more curious than ever about yoga and so are more motivated to practice too.

Our new format gives you the opportunity to dive in and deeply study for a period of 4 months, 1 weekend each month. You get over 60 hours of study in that time and it is sure to enrich your life! For those who wish to teach, the program continues for another 6 month for a full 200 hours of study that ends with certification as a yoga teacher.

Curious?

Community Highlight
2014 HeartSong Teacher Training Graduates: Heather & Sophie

As our first Community Highlight of the new year, we're featuring two of our recent 200 hour teacher training graduates, Heather Russell and Sophie Greenberg.

Heather is currently involved with the

HeartSong mentorship program in Leslie's gentle yoga class and we are pleased to announce that starting this month, you'll be able to take class with her on Tuesday nights: Level 2 at 5:45 pm and Level 1 at 7:15 pm.

Sophie

Sophie will begin mentoring with Leslie in the Sunday 4:30 pm Level 1 and will take
over as the regular teacher in mid-February.

We are so excited about the new ways that these two will be involved at the studio after coming through the teacher training program that we've invited them to share their experience with you.

-----------

You are both long-time yoga students -- at what point did you decide you wanted to do a yoga teacher training? Could you tell us a bit about what that decision-making process was like for you?

Heather: I had been thinking about taking a yoga teacher training program for about a year before I signed up. During some life coaching classes I had set some goals for myself over the next few years, one of them had been to get my 200 hr yoga certification. Previously I had attended another yoga training that really left me wanting more. I had heard about HeartSong from Jessica Halpren and after taking one of Leslie's classes I knew that is where I wanted to take my training, I think I put the deposit down that day.

Sophie: Even though I'd been practicing yoga for seven years before entering the teacher-training program, I knew I had only scratched the surface of what this practice had to offer, and was now ready to go deeper. I didn't enter the program with the goal to teach - only to immerse myself fully in the study. The decision was quite easy, actually. It was simply the right time. All I did was listen to my intuition that said, "You need to do this."
