August 2014

Leslie Ellis 09

Greetings and Happy August!

May you thoroughly enjoy these end-of-summer days over the next several weeks. In that spirit of enjoyment, I'm taking the month off from blogging. Do look below for a few things we've got going on at the studio and I'll see you in class!

Namaste,

Leslie

Growing Your Yoga
Embracing Change by Kat Heagberg

As I write this, I'm sitting at a little desk in the guest room at my mother's house in Michigan (my preschool class photo, senior pictures, and beloved childhood elephant ¨Ellie¨ are sitting on the shelf above me).
Technically I still live in Portland, but in a little over a month I'll be permanently settled in Northeast Pennsylvania.

In other words, I'm in a place of transition--literally (and geographically) at a space in between, smack dab in the middle of that exciting mysterious state called ¨change.¨ Really, if I stop and think about it, I'm always there (in a state of change I mean, not necessarilycommunitycorner the Midwest!) We all are.   [Finish reading...]

Transitions at the Studio

Change is indeed a constant in this life, and we've got a couple to let you know about! As summer rolls on and we find ourselves in August, we wanted to use this space to bid farewell to both Kat and Toby.

Kat taught her final classes here back in mid-July and took off later that week for a month of family time back home in Michigan. This fall, she'll be moving back to Pennsylvania where she'll take on a new position with Yoga International. Though we are sad to see her go and are so thankful for the wealth of knowledge and energy she brought to her classes here, please know that you can keep up with her teaching through yogainternational.com. She has a variety of articles and videos posted on the site, so you can continue to learn from her thanks to the power of the Internet!

We are also saying goodbye to Toby. She's stepping out of her role as our prenatal teacher, at least for the near future, so that she may be more available to care for her two young children as her family goes through some transitions of its own. Her passion for supporting new moms through our prenatal and other "mama yoga" offerings will truly be missed.

Best wishes to both of you and thank you for all you have contributed to this community!

Living Yoga Launches Recovery Yoga Class at HeartSong

We are pleased to announce that this fall, we'll be partnering with Living Yoga to provide studio space for a new recovery yoga class.  This is an exciting step for their organization as they branch out to the west side of the city to make a recovery-based yoga class more accessible to this part of the community.

Open to anyone impacted by addiction issues, this free, drop-in style class will meet weekly on Thursday nights at 7:15 pm, starting in early September.

Please check back with our class schedule later in August - we'll have it posted there once the start date is confirmed.  If there is anyone you know who might benefit from this class, please do pass this info along to them. workshops
