Some of you reading this know that I have a dog, Shams. If you have not heard my stories about Shams yet, then let me introduce you. Meet Shams-i-Tabriz, Shams for short (that's an 'a' like "ahhhh", not like a big pillowcase.) Anyway, you might be wondering how my pup got such a name. It came to me as I was driving down I-84 on my way to meet him. Worked it's way into my brain like an earworm and I just could not shake it. I wasn't sure what was inspiring me to name my dog after Rumi's Teacher, although the thought did come, "hmmm, the teacher's teacher?".... If only I had known! A year later I understood. The whirling dervish had broadcast to me that he was here and I answered the call. Have I learned the lessons of love, compassion and patience that Shams has to teach me? I am working on it. It has not been easy but I truly have learned a lot about myself in the process of living with Shamsi. And do read on here to hear more about some of the great offerings we have this summer! Blessings, Leslie

Growing Your Yoga Set Down Your Burdens and Play! by Kayci Cavenah

When was the last time you played? When was the last time you laughed so hard your stomach hurt? When was the last time you felt so light you found yourself skipping or hopping onto the back of your shopping cart? After a recent trip to Disneyland with my grandchildren, I realize that we grownups are often much too serious. That seriousness might show up in the severe form of anger and aggression or it might be a heaviness from carrying the weight of the world on our own small shoulders. Even more subtle are the natural tendencies toward attachment and aversion, a sense of grasping or clinging the things we like and a denial or rejection of the things we don't. In any case, asking ourselves why we are not having fun is a good place to start and yoga is the perfect environment for introspection and analysis. (Read on in the studio blog...)
When can you join Kayci on the mat? Sundays: Prenatal at 3:00pm and Level 1 at 4:30pm and Tuesdays: Level 2 at 5:45pm and Level 1 at 7:30pm |

Did You Know... HeartSong Yoga Loves Kids? Each summer, we hold a kids yoga class here at the studio and every year, it ends up being a blast! Our 8 week Yoga for Kids series allows your child to work with their creativity and focus through fun postures, activities and theater games, as well as their ability to be mindful and self-regulate.
For even more info, we hope you'll read this article that details even more ways that your child can benefit from yoga -- the practice truly offers them so much more than just physical strength and flexibility, two things that often come to mind when we think of yoga.
This summer's class kicks off on June 19th-- just 2 weeks from now! Jump down to our Workshops & Events section to learn more about the class and sign your child up today! |

Surprise: Molly's Back!
Those of you who used to take class with Molly Spangler on Saturday mornings (and everyone, for that matter) may be excited to hear that she'll be back from Vietnam at the end of this month for a visit and will stop by the studio to lead a special Saturday morning class!
Just shy of a year into their travels, she and her family are doing great, yet are eager for their summer trip to Oregon. She told us she's been busy getting the family settled over there, is back to teaching yoga and is also doing some work with a couple of different orphanages in her area.
Molly will be teaching here on this one occasion only, and it will surely be popular, so we do recommend signing up in advance! The first part of this 1.5 hour class will be made up of the fun and challenging sort of yoga sequences that Molly is known for, followed by a nice restorative practice. Even if you have never taken her class before, we hope you'll come out for this special Saturday morning class!
Please Note: Kat's regular morning classes at 7:30 and 9:00am will be cancelled on this day. A Special Class w/Molly Spangler! Saturday, June 29th | 8:30-10 am |
