April 10th - The Key(stone) to Better Posture
Mary Paffard will be here at HeartSong next weekend! Part of her visit will include a workshop for teachers on topic of the sacrum and its role as a "keystone" in the body, which affects back health, openness in the hips, and overall good posture. If you've been taking classes here for a while, you may have noticed that our teachers definitely support this theory through their instruction.

So often in the yoga and fitness worlds we hear the cue, "tuck your tailbone", which actually throws the entire body out of alignment, both when sitting and standing. This action, which implies a squeezing or tensing of the muscles in this area, can create a whole host of physical imbalances. We were built with a curve in our low back, and some of us have a larger curve than others. Why do we feel the need to hide that by flattening it out, anyway?!

Mary ponders this and shares some of her thoughts on the matter in her article entitled, "The Politics of Posture". We recommend giving it a read!

We still have some openings for all days of next weekend's workshop. If you are curious about Mary's teachings, we encourage you to join us. It will be a fabulous opportunity to grow your practice!
