January 24th - Postcards from India: Week 1
|
So begins the first in our series of Postcards from India! During this first week of their journey to the east, Leslie and Kayci have been staying in some more remote areas without access to the Internet, so we haven't received any pictures or travel reports to pass on as of yet.
But... we still wanted to give you an idea of some of the incredible sites they've been visiting, according to their itinerary. Their stops have included:
Paramahansa Yogananda's Boyhood Home: Yogananda is one of the first modern teachers to bring yoga to the western world. Located in Dakshineswar on the eastern tip of the country, just a few miles north of Kolkata, Yogananda's home remains open to the public. Visitors are allowed to meditate in his small attic room and meet some of his living relatives who continue to reside there. What a powerful place!
The Kali Temple at Dakshineshwar: Built in the mid-19th century on the banks of the Hooghly river, this temple was founded by philanthroper Rani Rashmoni as a devotion to the Hindu goddess, Kali. You can view images of the temple's stunning, intricate architecture and learn more about its historical significance on the Dakshineswar Kali Temple Facebook page.
Until next week!
