February 2015

TriZetto Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Graduates Congratulations to TriZetto's twelve graduates who received their Six Sigma Green Belt Certification. The graduates studied in a blended learning format: 25 hours online learning, 23 hours classroom instruction, plus 18 hours of skills application in a three-day capstone project and final examination.
Instructor Mary Murphy noted that this group determined to have a 100% completion rate and succeeded. The graduates look forward to being part of teams that will support company strategies to improve operational processes. TriZetto software manages the health benefits of close to half the insured population of the U.S. and supports about a quarter of all U.S. care providers.
Expertise
By Barry Schapiro
Leadership for Life - ExpertiseWhat kind of a leader are you? Are you a "Too many cooks spoil the broth" or a "Many hands make light work"? Put another way, are you a "do it my way" or a "seeker of consensus" leader?
We can probably come up with examples of success in either of the approaches, but I strongly believe in "open source leadership" as being more effective in the long run.
A leader's rewards come from presiding over a successful organization, no matter who came up with the ideas. There is no need to hoard expertise.
This Thing Called Work
By George Friesen
This Thing Called Work Far too many American workers "ain't working here no more" even if they are showing up for work and the cost to our economy is huge.
Gallup's 2012 report "State of the American Workplace" tells us that the cost of the "Johnny paycheck syndrome" is between $450 billion to $550 billion annually.
On the flip side, this study also reports that the payback of driving higher levels of employee engagement is huge. For example, companies in the top quartile in employee engagement have:
  • 37% lower absenteeism
  • 48% fewer safety incidents
  • 41% fewer quality incidents
  • 22% higher profitability
