Lean the power of simplicity graphicUnlike some other popular productivity improvement processes that build on a mystique of complexity practiced by a priesthood of hierarchical practitioners, Lean, at its heart, is based on the power of simplicity.
The thinking process that Lean builds, Kaizen thinking, is a simple process. It is also an incredibly powerful process. It transforms those who practice it into expert waste spotters.
Individuals who practice Kaizen thinking, like scientists, love to find mistakes in work processes because they know that it is only through the finding of mistakes that work processes can be improved.
Read George's blog to learn more about the power of the simplicity within Lean and Kaizen thinking.
Leadership for Life any questions graphicAs a leader, you know that when you prepare for a presentation or a discussion, the most important thing to prepare are your questions, not what you're going to say.
The leader's job is to get his/her subordinates to generate ideas and solutions to problems, not come up with everything him/herself.
Leaders also need to be prepared to answer questions. Unfortunately, too many people are afraid to ask higher ranking people hard questions, for fear of retaliation. As a leader, you need to encourage people to ask you questions, especially the hard ones.
Read Barry's blog to see the questions leaders should be asking and answering.
After my last blog post, "Aha Moment," I received a number of inquiries about what exactly is WorkKeys Job Profiling and how are the results used.
Here's my elevator speech for WorkKeys job profiling: "a customized company and job specific task and data analysis used for developing selection/promotion/training criteria."
So what are the details behind this one-liner? Instead of sitting in an ivory tower and making predictions as to what tasks are associated with a job, the WorkKeys profiling process uses a company identified focus group process to gather job task and WorkKeys skill information from job incumbents who actually do the job.
This method contributes to meeting hiring requirements adopted by the EEOC. It also integrates with the ISO 9000 standards for quality business practices.
