Eat To Live
Customized Nutrition

March 13, 2013

Hi Everyone,
Thank you to those who were able to attend our alternative prevention talk last night, given by herbalist, Lynn Murdock.  We were able to see many of her tinctures, cremes, salves and teas.  If you are interested in purchasing any herbal products, they can be viewed at www.earthwindfirefarm.com.  I have a selection also available in my office.

Our building expansion is well on its way, much thanks to Paul and Linda for making this happen.  Expected finish date by April 1st.  Nutrition will now be located in our current office, as well as adjacent room currently used for reflexology.  Eat To Live will be expanding our product line so please contact me if there is anything in particular you would like to have us carry.

A special welcome to our newest Registered Dietitian, Diana Beaton.  Diana will be joining us starting April 5th and available on friday afternoons, helping us to expand available evening hours.

Our 4th annual WASP challenge is going strong, with impressive weight loss results each week.  Don't forget, the program includes 4 nutrition appts with one of the dietitians.  Contact me if you still need to schedule yours.

Congratulations to Eric Rondeau on winning the raffle for a 2lb whey protein powder.  Stay tuned, more to come.

Did You Know...

The average person eats 70lbs of sugar each year.  The equivalent of 22 teaspoons daily.  Want more math?  88grams of sugar, or the same as over 2 sodas daily. How much did you take in today???

Wheat Uncovered
Why does it seem like as of recent there are more issues with wheat ingestion and a seemingly urgent increase in obesity, diabetes, Irritable bowel and inflammatory issues?

Modern wheat has been crossbred and hyrbridized for reasons like making it drought-resistant, fungi-resistant and able to produce more crop per plant.  This tampered wheat results in higher blood sugar levels, cravings (both encouraging overeating) and increase in inflammation. This inflammation specifically links to obesity, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, IBS and cancer, just to name a few.
Are there better choices?  Primitive varieties such as einkorn are easier to digest and do not have the same health endangering effects.  Those with gluten sensitivities may be able to tolerate this better also.

Heritage Wheat Conservatory and Canada's Heritage Wheat Project are working on preservation of these specific wheats:  einkorn, emmer, red fife and ladoga.  Check out HWC at the Boston Food Festival later this year.

Kamut International is a company that sells its khorasan wheat (untampered wheat) to healthfood stores.

Also check with your local farmers & CSA's, they may have these ancient varieties.

Herbal Prevention
If you missed the herb talk last night, here is a little recap of some points of interest that may be of use to you.

A few drops of beebalm added to shampoo bottles can help prevent alzheimers.

Dandelion root tincture is a natural diuretic, and helpful for lowering blood pressure.

Correct dosage for echinacea is half your bodyweight in drops, up to every 2 hours.

Elderberry is the best flu prevention.  Buh-bye flu shots.

Ginger tincture is great for any type of nausea.  Morning sickness, motion sickness, chemo

Hawthorne is a magnificent heart strengthener

Motherwort is helpful for male & female (surprising, I know) also to strengthen the heart.  Also relieves PMS symptoms, menstrual cramps and hot flashes.

Nettles is a blood purifier, restores adrenal & kidney function, and used for allergies.

Prostate Tincture is used for prevention as well as if symptoms are already present.

Spilanthes (one of my fav's) for mouth issues such as gum disease, canker sores, and toothaches.

I will be placing an order for beebalm tincture this week from Lynn, contact me if interested.  1oz bottle $9, 2oz bottle $17.  Only 3 drops needed per bottle of shampoo so these will last you a few years!
