Hi! My name is Jocelyn Gutierrez, and I am deeply honored to share my testimony of God's grace and love in my life. I am number four of five children that my parents raised in a Christian home. At an early age my mother decided that she would home school all five of her children.
Throughout my schooling years I had the privilege of being raised in the Word of God. I accepted Christ as my Savior at the age of eleven at a Baptist track meeting in our local community. Soon after I began to fervently seek out the things of God. I began attending the junior high youth group at Trinity Church in Lubbock, Texas. I spent the next six years growing in my relationship with Christ.
I was sixteen when I first heard a missionary speak. I was on a mission trip with the youth to the Dream Center in Los Angeles, California. During a chapel event there an Asian missionary spoke about the Aids crisis in Uganda. I immediately had a desire to find out more about Africa and locate Uganda. In my exploration I discovered I wanted to be a part of what God was doing, especially in Uganda, but all of Africa was clearly in my sights. I knew I would minister in Africa one day.
13 years after that initial encounter, I got the opp
ortunity to spend eleven months in South Africa teaching 4th & 5th grade school children. I also led educators in Biblical integration in teaching and encouraged spiritual concepts in their lives as well as the lives of the children. In these classes God graced me and I led all forty-five children to Jesus at different times throughout those months!
I am again giving the next two years of my life to serve God in South Africa. I have partnered with my home church & with GeoBound ministries as a covering while I am there. Thank you for the opportunity to share my journey with you.
