IN LOVE AND REMEMBRANCE

From Chuck Riley:  "June 28, 2015 Wayne's panel was placed on the Altar Candle of Remembrance. I added his mother also, as I'm sure he would have done this panel for her had he lived.  It is bittersweet to have him placed on the candle. This candle was his vision to remember and celebrate the good and sad times of our community's collective lives."

ENVIRONMENTAL GROUPS SUE FERC FOR LNG EXPORT TERMINAL AT COVE POINT

Protestors at FERC's Washington,DC Office

On May 7, 2015 three environmental groups--Chesapeake Climate Action Network, Patuxent Riverkeeper, and Sierra Club--sued the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) over its decision to approve a massive liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal along the Chesapeake Bay in southern Maryland without conducting a rigorous environmental review.

The lawsuit, filed by Earthjustice, charges that FERC circumvented the law by failing to consider how Dominion Resources' $3.8 billion Cove Point project would trigger expanded fracking for natural gas in the Marcellus shale region, leading to significant new amounts of air, water and climate-disrupting pollution.  Additionally, the groups contend that FERC failed to adequately consider the impact of foreign ships dumping dirty wastewater into the Chesapeake Bay.

From Jo, a Little Sister of Jesus who is dedicated to circus people and a friend of Sylvia's.  She writes from Rome:

The famous Swiss clown,
Grock
".....The Swiss clown Grock died in 1959.  He was considered the "greatest European clown."  He learned musicianship and acrobatic skills from his father and when a caravan of Roma gypsies passed through he joined them, learning more instruments and gaining confidence.  He made his debut with a circus in 1894 at 14.  He is most remembered for his routines using pantomime and musical blunders and described the secret of clowning as follows:  "The genius of clowning is transforming the little everyday annoy- ances, not only overcoming but actually transforming them, into something strange and terrific... it is the power to extract mirth for millions out of nothing
                                              and less than nothing."
SACRED CIRCLE DANCE & BODY PRAYER WORKSHOPInvaluable!
Michael Mansfield led Evolve in a powerful, wonderfully expressive body prayer, chant and sacred dance circle on June 28!  It was great to share it with the community:  people from UCCA, and some Catholic, Lutheran, Quaker, Unitarians, from GAIN, and more!  We united our prayers to Muslims, Jews, Buddhists and to the people of Charlestown, the Supreme Court Justices and all those who worked to secure marriage equality and health care for all in our country.  It was a beautiful and encouraging community experience. There were 21 participants, 3 of whom remained to join us in sacred gathering.  Michael did this in honor of Wayne, as they had sown the seeds together for it months ago.  Much gratitude to Michael and to our Evolve volunteers!

Please note that OPEN ARMS will recommence in September
.

From Erine

Step-Dad and Step-step Mom,
June 27th

The family with Step-Dad and his mom plus my brother

There are moments when the most important thing is having a memory.  I don't mean in the moment but in view.

I needed this picture and I feel that some of the greatest moments are ones you don't see until after they are done because they keep you going when nothing else can.

I'm proud to call Paul and his 3rd wife, Suzanne, family.  It is an honor to have many parents to love....I'm blessed with four living and one a beautiful memory.

DAYSPRING WEEKEND RETREAT JULY 31 - AUGUST 2
Dayspring
The Mystical Words of Jesus: Praying the Beatitudes in his Native Aramaic

Aramaic was the common language in Jesus' time. Using
Prayers of the Cosmos by Neil Douglas-Klotz as a guide, we will explore the Beatitudes' layered meanings through chant, breath and gentle movement, and we will have the freedom to write our own renditions of the Beatitudes.  Led by Connie Ridgway, a modern mystic and singer.  She is a psychotherapist and cranio-sacral therapist in Washington, DC, and member of the 8th Day Faith Community.

Dayspring is a rare and beautiful place for solitude, silence and rest. The forest and meadows, the quiet of Merton's Pond and the warmth of the Lodge of the Carpenter and the Inn create space for prayer and contemplation. Come, deepen your relationship with the One in whom we live and move and have our being.  You can ask Sylvia Oliva about Dayspring and contact them for more information and to register:  Dayspring Silent Retreat Center, 11301 Neelsville Church Road
