Christ is Risen!
Christ is Risen!
Christ is Risen indeed!

This Sunday as we gather in sacred circle at 6 PM we will engage with the the cycle of Birth, Death and Resurrection present in all Creation, at every level of life and structure.

The Big Bang was the most awesomely destructive event in all of Cosmic History.  Through that birth, death and resurrection all that exists came into being through countless transformations.

In Spring we see plants grow and bloom from seemingly dead bulbs and branches.

In our lives we experience birth, death and rebirth of ourselves, our goals, our personalities.

There is nothing more certain than change in Cosmic experience.

In the life of Jesus of Nazareth, we see a human who so completely trusted his Abba G-d, that it led him to pour away his life for his principles and for that trust he had in his Creator.

We affirm with the church of all time, that God's word of life overcomes all obstacles to full union with God, that not even death has the ability to separate us from our Creator.

Celebrate with us this Easter, new life! New beginnings!  New trust in our Creator!
Peace,
Wayne

Word of Easter
Each one of us has experienced the loneliness of alienation.  We know what it means to be hurt, to endure rejection, to know fear and misunderstanding, while at the same time our lives become closed, inward-directed, insensitive, and we want to retaliate!  Relationships are broken, loneliness is enhanced; but from these emotions of hurt and fear we cannot deliver ourselves.  We can only wait and hope until across the chasm of our isolation there comes the gift of love, and this love heals, accepts, dispels fear, embraces with understanding.  Love iifts us up and stands us on our feet, giving us the courage to live again, to dare again, to risk loving again.  That is resurrection!  When we know love, we are lifted into life, resurrected life, life that can never be totally destroyed again.
"Word of Easter" from Christpower by John Shelby Spong.  Arranged in
free verse by Lucy Newton Boswell; Haworth, NJ: Haworth Press, 2007

Vespers and Discussions on The New Jim Crow with Asbury UMC

Conversations on The New Jim Crow have begun with Asbury United Methodist Church at 87 West Street, Annapolis.  Our next meeting there will be Wednesday, April 15 at 7:35 PM.  Chapter 7, the last chapter will be discussed.  They have also invited us to join them for 6:30 PM Vespers prior to the discussion.

Is not this the sort of fast that pleases me
--it is the Lord Yahweh who speaks--
to break unjust fetters
and undo the thongs of the yoke,

to let the oppressed go free,
and break every yoke,
to share your bread with the hungry,
and shelter the homeless poor....

Personal Hell
                       (Thanks, Ryan Sirmons)

The subject of Hell is an interesting subject to consider.  Looking at Hell in truth, what is it?  Is it afterlife or present?  Our Hell is present as when life throws curve balls and you feel invisible or empty, isn't that Hell in itself?  When people can't praise you, but without words tell you all your wrongs, isn't that Hell?  The idea of Hell isn't easy to understand yet we pretend we do.  Isn't it a form of Hell waiting for payday only to see the majority of your check go into bills?  People making choices over food, bills, or medical care, can't that be Hell?  Living with an image of what, who, where, and why you exist could be Hell, as some things are just beyond our control.  The examples are infinite...I mean infinite.

I learned this week that Hell doesn't have to be scary.  I faced my private Hell of low self-esteem again.  In this discussion it felt like they had tapped into the well of low self-esteem and stirred everything up that I fight everyday.  I learned through many individuals who have faith, that I was better than my self image and to override and face it.  I'm grateful to them!!!  This battle opened old scars and created new ones.

Whatever your personal Hell, be it physical, professional, personal, or otherwise, try to face it and know injury is possible as well as strength.  Hell counts on you running away.  It trusts that you don't have the strength to win.  Winning maybe means walking away and that's okay.  Perhaps it could be addressing the matter with thought and timing.  There are many attack plans ... again, the number is infinite. In this time of Lent, it is good to think about your personal Hell.
