In Creation Spirituality...
"We understand Jesus not as a deity to be worshiped, but as an example of the fulfillment of a perfect faith and the actions of an ideal individual.  We understand that Jesus modeled God in human form.  We believe that we are each called to do the same, but realize that we may never reach the level of perfection of Jesus. Nonetheless, we believe that we are included as a part of God's chosen people, and we can strive for constant improvement toward providing unconditional love and revealing the charity of God to others in our lives."

A Letter to Companions from Dave
Leader of our Sacred Gathering this Sunday, January 11
Dave Miller

January 11th is the Fourth Sunday on the Path of Creativity, and our recent Gatherings have been devoted to Advent and Christmas.  This Sunday, however, we will take a short side-trip down the Path of Transformation, as we give consideration to our individual power as agents of transformation in this world.
Transformation is one of the four paths we celebrate in Creation Spirituality.

As we each prepare for Sacred Gathering this Sunday, I ask that you devote some time to consider your hopes. Create some time and space to dream a little. (In this exercise, let your mind run free.  Acknowledge, take stock of and move beyond the mundane hopes such as ...  "I hope that traffic is light."  "I hope that my ice cream is in stock at Shoppers."  Be sure to give due regard to the hopes that might be essential...  "I hope I get a raise."  "I hope I can get a new car before mine dies."  Then, be certain to take time to be mindful of the big hopes in your life, the hopes that often remain unspoken to all but your very closest confidant.  These are the hopes that are sometimes fleeting, because they seem impossible.  The ones that our rational mind says "It can be" or "It won't be."  These may be very personal and introspective, (they may be your New Year resolutions, if you are so inclined) or they may be hopes that would have more far reaching, even global impact.  Give those hopes words and shape.  Picture them in your mind.  Have a strong sense about them.

Don't worry, you won't be asked to speak of these hopes to our companions. (No one needs to know what each of us truly hopes for.)   Bring them with you mentally, or write them down if you are so inclined, so that you can consider them during the gathering.  The Path of Transformation can't be traversed without a vision of where the road might lead.  Our hopes can shape our vision, so let's take a risk and consider what each of us individually might see in the future!  Let us each have a powerful vision of what might be in the next day, month, year, decade or generation!

We are each called to present God to the world...to model Jesus' example of being both human and divine to everyone we encounter.  We can stimulate that process by daring to hope.  Our responsibility is to support each other on our individual journeys.  We may not know where each other want or need to be, what any single individual's hopes are, but we can be a light on that path.

I look forward to creating a vision with you based on your hope this Sunday at Sacred Gathering!

Dave

the Renewable Energy Standard in Maryland!

Interfaith Power & Light, Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN), the Unitarian Universalists of Maryland, the Sierra Club and several other organizations will be part of a large movement across Maryland this year, taking bold action to get a bill passed which will double our state's renewable energy to 40% by 2025. This legislation would be a huge step in cleaning up our air and cutting down the climate pollution that is harming Marylanders and endangering our entire global family!

Please join the rally this first day of legislative session
Wednesday, January 14
from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
at Lawyers Mall, 100 State Circle in Annapolis.

Rev. Ryan Sirmons will be speaking at the rally.  For more information
please see the CCAN website: http://chesapeakeclimate.org/events/.

I'm planning to be there.  See you?

UCCA Annual Congregational Meeting
January 18
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Plan to attend if you can.

Blessed are the animals for they shall lead us back to our lost innocence.

Blessed are the great whales for their vast intelligence is peaceful.

Blessed is the wolf for she was there at the dawn of Creation.

Blessed is the eagle f
or he is the king of birds.

Blessed is the pigeon and the sparrow for their willingness to live with us.

Blessed are the otters for their playfulness is without guile.

Blessed are the bees for they make Earth fruitful and green.

Blessed are our cousins The Great Apes who we have a
bused unmercifully.

Blessed are the elephants for they are pure in heart.

Blessed are the great cats for surely their perfection has no equal.

Blessed are all wild, free things for they live in harmony with their Mother.

Blessed are those animals who are part of our families for they lead us to the rest of Creation.

And blessed be Humankind who has gone so far astray.  May we listen to Earth's other voices and become shepherds of the flock.

Blessed is the Creation in its magnificence for the Spirit dwells in every living thing...
And is indivisible.

HOWARD COUNTY RT. 1 HOMELESS SHELTER IN NEED OF GLOVES

This is a homeless shelter run jointly by several churches.  It provides a hot meal, clothing and shower facilities to homeless people in the area, but it is not an overnight facility.  Warm Winter gloves--new or used--are needed for adults they serve.  If you have any to spare, Sylvia will collect them when you bring them to our Sacred Gathering.
