"If the only prayer you ever say is 'thank you' it will be enough."

-- Meister Eckhart

As we take a day with family and friends to reflect on the blessings of our lives, let us not forget the Original Blessing which is the fact we are alive!  We know that we are.  Gratitude is fundamental to Creation Spirituality.  Our spiritual life begins in awe and wonder and moves through all the myriad of experiences with the Divine that we encounter on our journey.

As we all know, our lives are not always filled with experiences which lead easily to gratitude, but we know that the Divine is in all our life.  The struggle as human beings is to embrace all that life sends our way, to search for the Presence in the midst of that experience.

In this time of great transition for our community, I give thanks for each of you who have pledged their love and support to the journey of Evolve Chesapeake.  Sometimes I am so aware of being a stranger in a strange land.  But it is a land for which I can give thanks.  And it is an experience for which I am grateful.

I hope to see each of you at our first service as a Creation Spirituality ministry of the United Church of Christ of Annapolis.  As we begin this new chapter of our life together, let us rejoice in the Spirit who has called us!  See you at 6 PM on Sunday evening at 8 Carvel Circle, Edgewater, MD.  (For a map and directions, go to http://evolvechesapeake.com/location.html)

We will celebrate our new beginning and Rev. Ryan Sirmons will be with us to receive those into membership of UCCA who have chosen to do so.  All of this as we enter into Advent, a time of preparation for the rebirth of Christ in our lives and world.

In deep gratitude and peace, Wayne

Celebration of Michael Scott Bowling
by Dave Miller, his husband

Michael Scott Bowling, our Companion
Michael Scott Bowling, 43,
passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, November
19, 2014, after a long struggle with Crohn's Disease and cancer, surrounded by family and friends.

Scott squeezed the utmost

out of life despite life-long

health challenges. He was

many things: a son, a brother, an uncle, a husband, an activist, a lawyer, a mortgage banker, a candidate, and a warm and loving friend to many. His warmth, optimism, and courage were remarkable.

In addition to his husband, Scott is survived by: his parents; Anna Maria and Carl Angolia; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Alicia Angolia and their daughters Abigail and Addison; his father, John Bowling; and many more in-laws and nieces and nephews on the Miller side of the family. He shared a particularly close relationship with his Aunt Rose and Uncle Tony Biancaniello. He is survived by many other relatives and friends.

A service celebrating Scott's life will be held at 11 AM, November 29, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, 171 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis. The Family will receive guests starting at 10 AM. A luncheon will follow the service at 1 PM at Annapolis Elks Lodge, 2 Pythian Drive, Edgewater, Maryland.

A reflection after Scott Bowling's death, written on November 20, 2014

                                             Death
                  There is a silence
                  that quiets the soul
                  of all its madness
                  When letting go
                  means only in body...
                  There are no calls,
no letters, no unexpected-
just the moments
that fade into thoughts.
Many times I still-
Still hear, read,
and have unexpected
but they happen
in my heart
so as I continue
My day-to-day....
You are a silence

that quiets my soul.

For a New Beginning

By John O'Donohue

(1956 - 2008)

In out-of-the-way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts never think to wander,
This beginning has been quietly forming,

Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time it has watched your desire,
Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,
Noticing how you willed yourself on,

Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety
And the gray promises that sameness whispered,
Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,

Wondered would you always live like this.

Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream,

A path of plenitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning

That is at one with your life's desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,

For your soul senses the world that awaits you.
