The Rev. Dr. Wayne Schwandt

Today I am filled with mixed emotions as I share with our larger community. Along with all of us who knew and loved Scott Bowling, I am mourning his death on Wednesday evening.  If you look in the dictionary under the word "disturber," you should find his picture.  He was a constant agitator for change and justice.  He was a superhero of advocacy for all those who needed assistance.  Undoubtedly his passion was fueled by own life long struggle with health issues, especially his Chrone's Disease and most recently the lung cancer which claimed his life.  He will be missed in our church community as well as the wider community of Annapolis.  A celebration of his life is being planned for Saturday, November 29.

My other strong emotions emerge from our time of transition to becoming a ministry of the United Church of Christ of Annapolis.  I am excited about this new beginning and hopeful that we will reach many new people with our message of radical welcome and a celebration of Creator's love.  Beginning with our first service at UCCA, we will prepare for celebrating the birth of the Christ in the world.  During Advent we will explore the Four Paths of Creation Spirituality.

We thank the Annapolis Friends Meeting for hosting us for eleven years!  May we continue to find ways of working together for the Divine in our world.

Peace, Wayne

My Take on Stewardship
by Sylvia Oliva

"In our community we believe in the intrinsic goodness and incarnation of God in all of Creation, including each human life.  In doing so we do not believe that we are damaged goods, rather we believe that everyone is born into Original Blessing, and it is our
challenge to live up to the good that God has empowered in us."  - from Evolve Chesapeake's Welcome Booklet.  I think this is at the heart of our vision and what is most important to me.  I have found so much love and respect, challenge and nurturing in Evolve Chesapeake and am very thankful for our spiritual community.

Now new opportunities are about to open for us as part of the United Church of Christ of Annapolis.  Opportunities to reach out even more to the LGBT community, to share Creation Spirituality, and work for justice and peace.  We'll have more support and resources as we join forces with UCCA in a creative way and together let our light shine.

Let us continue to be good stewards of our vision, our truth, our call, giving as always our "time, talent and treasure."  Please reflect on what you can pledge for this coming year. Know that even a small amount is much appreciated and will help us in budgeting and planning the year ahead.

"Creating, loving God, we give thanks for the love which abides in this circle with Scott.  Bless Scott on this part of his journey as he continues to move towards the Light of the your Presence.  Guide him as he lets go of this life and returns more fully to the Source.  Comfort all those who love him.  And bring us all peace.  Amen."

There are things and places that bring comfort.  Some people are like grilled cheese and tomato soup.  My community is like that...I love you all and may we be comfort food for a new community.   May we be comfort food to our friends.
