From the Pastor's KeyboardThe Rev. Dr. Wayne Schwandt
Being a spiritual person who acts out my faith in community means that from time to time I am challenged to stretch myself to put into practice Jesus' most troublesome authentic saying, "Love your enemies." Conversation about loving our enemies usually gets taken to the extreme as we consider how Jesus would have wanted his followers to love the Roman soldiers occupying their country in 30 A.D. or how in our day we might love an Islamist who sees their faith lived out in destroying Western culture as a manifestation of Satan.
But closer to home is learning to disagree in love with those whose opinions are different than ours. Our culture is pretty effective at training us into the belief that the right response to difference is to seek the destruction of those with whom we disagree. Don't we see demonstrations of this "might makes right" everyday in our lives? "Might" can be physical violence as well as verbal, intellectual or educational superiority over others. We only need look at Congress to see where such an attitude of "my way or the highway" leads to total inaction and waste of resources. Loving action manifests as compromise, respect, and compassion.
Our community is being called into a new relationship with another spiritual community. Quite frankly, my Companions, we have become way too insular and way too homogeneous. The Spirit, I believe, is calling us into deeper and broader relationship with the Church. We have gifts to bring to the table and so do the others! We have a way of talking the talk of our spiritual journey which will be frightening to some and exciting to others. But the strength for each of us is to be in relationship with others who do not share the same experience, the same theology, the same place in society.
Such a new venture leads to anxiety from potential judgment and rejection by others, change in administrative functions, a demotion for me as "minister" of Evolve in our new system, promotion of lay leadership, joining in a new denomination's history, polity, and local practice.
But there are also tremendous opportunities. We have always wanted to do far more than a small group of dedicated people could achieve. Now we have the opportunity to join with another relatively small group of dedicated people to achieve together a message of acceptance, practice love in action, celebrate through ritual and ceremony, bring healing, compassion and hope to a world longing for love.
Peace, Wayne

Autumn
by Rainer Maria Rilke
The leaves are falling, falling as if from far up,
as if orchards were dying high in space.
Each leaf falls as if it were motioning "no." And tonight the heavy earth is falling
away from all the other stars in the loneliness. We're all falling. This hand here is falling. And look at the other one... It's in them all. And yet there is Someone, whose hands, infinitely calm, hold up all this falling.

REFLECTIONS OF A BOARD MEMBER ON THE PROPOSED COVENANT WITH UCCA
My heart-thoughts after the Evolve Board met on October 22 with Pastor Ryan Sirmons and Bill Mitchell, Moderator of UCCA:
Right now I feel like we are a seed being ripped apart or a beautiful rose that is being pruned. It's a letting go and our hearts are sinking. Perhaps we are experiencing--not for the 1st time--what it means to be Anawim and to be invited to become more like Rabbi Jeshua. One step at a time we move into the future together. "Step by step and round and round, carry us to holy ground. Center is calling; Earth's still revolving. Something lost and something found."
We will be creative. We will in our humbled state shine with the "sunshine that goes everywhere" and open wide our hearts to our fellow parishioners of UCCA so that the Messiah in our midst may be seen.
We will keep our sense of humor, our authenticity as a Creation Spirituality Community, and our language. For I still feel that we need to "speak a new language so that the world may be a new world"--the language of our words, hearts and actions--of acceptance, inclusion, respect and love. Namaste.....Peace, Sylvia

From ErinePhotos say so much...these are very different ones. The first was taken while I was driving on the parking lot near Giant in Severna Park and the second is the Green Man at the RennFest. Look for uniqueness and you will find yourself...
