FREE SUMMER FILM FESTIVAL

From GAIN (Greater Annapolis Interfaith Network)

Thursday, August 14 at 7 PM

St. John Neumann Church Community Room

620 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD

"INGREDIENTS"

Come to see this film about how efforts are being made to shrink the gap between farm and table. Chefs, growers, restauranteurs and consumers discuss methods for bringing food production back home. "Ingredients" also covers community supported agriculture, biodynamic wine and organic gardening. It also talks about preventing outbreaks of disease.  Following the film there will be a discussion led by Chef Craig Sewell, owner and chef of Cooks Cafe and head instructor at his Chesapeake School of Cooking which holds

                                          classes at the cafe.

Dinner first for those who wish:
The Annapolis Friends are inviting us to dinner at 5:30 PM before the film at the Friends Meeting House on Dubois Road. The dinner will be catered by the Lighthouse Shelter Catering Program. RSVP to peregoyb@yahoo.com by Aug. 3rd.  Cost is $15 for adults.

TO BE HOPEFUL in bad times is not just foolishly romantic.

It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also
of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness.

What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives.  If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something.

If we remember those times and places--and there are so many--where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction.

And if we do act, in however small a way, we don't have to wait for some grand utopian future.

The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.
