From the Pastor's Keyboard The Rev. Dr. Wayne Schwandt
Our community was visited this week by death as we collectively heard about Patricia Teano, one of our Companions. Her son, Tony, who came to our Sacred Gathering last Sunday evening, shared his grief and the story of his mother's final months. Tony's openness to his grief and his love for his mother were a beautiful witness within our community. And our community responded in love to him.
The death of a loved one within our community is a time to celebrate the particular life which has ended, but it also invites each of us to think about the preciousness of life and to share with those we love about our wishes when our time comes to return to Creator. As my mentor, Fr. Bill Wendt, taught in the final stages of his ministry, it is important to deal with death, find its meaning within our lives, and know how we'd like our lives celebrated through ritual in our sacred community.
While talking about death and dying isn't easy, it is essential within a community committed to evolutionary and healthy spirituality. Denial of death inevitably fails as a strategy for each life.
As we gather later this week to celebrate Patricia's life, may we hear in that celebration an opportunity to talk about and share our thoughts and wishes about our own dying. May none of us be faced with that reality soon, but with the connections that occur within community through sharing, it is a vital and life giving gift to all Companions.
May you celebrate the gift of life every day, Wayne

Support our Food Bank.
|
Food banks throughout the country have been hard hit for the last few years and the need has not bypassed Anne Arundel County. Please help those in need by donating pantry staples (tinned meat and fish, boxed pasta products, infant formula, etc.) as well as personal care products such as laundry detergent, toilet paper, disposable razors, bath/shower soap, deodorant, toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products. (You can't purchase non-edibles with food stamps.) Just bring a bag and place it on the floor near our Community Table.

As the snow and the cold has come,
It reminds us of the warmth from within,
Love is like a cover
And it melts the snow away...
Welcome 2014...

We work with the finest booksellers in the world to cultivate a truly remarkable collection that strikes the perfect balance between quantity and quality of selection."

Be ours a religion which, like sunshine, goes everywhere;
it's temple, all space;
it's shrine, the good heart;
it's creed, all truth;
it's ritual, works of love.
