Co-creating a Progressive Christian Spirituality

"Wounding and healing are not opposites. They're part of the same thing. It is our wounds that enable us to be compassionate with the wounds of others. It is our limitations that make us kind to the limitations of other people. It is our loneliness that helps us to find other people or to even know they're alone with an illness. I think I have served people perfectly with parts of myself I used to be ashamed of."

From:
Six Steps of Passion by Jamie Moran
A resource Scott Bowling used a few years ago at
our Sacred Gathering in his Reflection on Passion

"The most profound definition of passion is: what we will suffer and lose for Love (really, for the Truth of Love, which is the heart truth--not any abstracted truth, or a doctrinal truth, but a truth lived out to the full and discovered only by the human heart). Passion is the energy of love, its muscle, its outgoing and 'put up or shut up' outreach and thrust. Passion is what we will "do" for what matters most to us, and indeed, what matters most in all the world. Passion is binding ourselves to what is at stake, for the sake of saving it."

Autumn's Beliefs
     By Christina Borgoyn

autumn leaves fall upon the cresting earth,
seasons bleed into a fortitude of decay,
her words of penchant are lost to the winds,
yet I still linger in quieted footsteps...

the colours shift and change upon the breast of my footsteps,
through the trees quickens the winds,
arbitrary to popular belief, death is only a renaissance of decay,
for it yields a rainbow of sin upon the disagreeing earth...

autumn leaves fall upon the cresting earth,
no longer am I deceived by the scorching winds,
dulcet tones are hollow in the sound of yesterday's decay,
yet I still linger in quieted footsteps...

Contemplating Mortality: The Need to Remember That Death Is a Human and Personal Event, and Not Just a Medical One

Contemplating Mortality
Even while we fight for life with all the tools at our disposal, we have to reckon with the reality of death. The good news, as he tells it, is that there are riches to be gained in that reckoning. That edge of life - which our miraculous medicine allows some to perch on longer than ever before - can be a time of unparalleled repair and celebration. Like it or not, as Dr. Byock says, death completes us. These days more than ever before, we can shape that moment of completion together with those we love. click here for more
