Whatever the expression of our creativity, it is our prayer and praise.

Dominion Virginia Power has plans to build a $3.8 billion facility at Cove Point where they will pipe in fracked natural gas, liquefy it and export it to Asia.  A statewide coalition of environmental, faith, health, and public interest groups has begun a nine-stop tour to rally public opposition to this.  Called "Maryland Crossroads 2013: Clean Energy, Not Cove Point!," the tour is holding town hall meetings to alert Marylanders of the dangers of the environmental pollution this would bring to our state.  For more information about this issue, what you can do to prevent it, and how you can support clean energy solutions, contact the Chesapeake Climate Action Network.

Notes on Pastor Wayne's Reflection from last Sunday: "Growing"
[note-taker, Sylvia Oliva]

    Zacchaeus's story is told in Luke 19:1-10.  He was a man "short in stature,"--also someone with a lot of potential to grow, as we shall see.  We know he was despised for being a tax collector because he cheated his own people.  And we know he wanted to see Jesus.
    As Jesus was coming down the road into Jericho with people crowding all around him, Zacchaeus--being short--climbs up into a sycamore tree to see Jesus.  Jesus looks up and calls him down saying he wants to stay at his house.
    We all know what it's like to be at home in the presence of the Divine. When we are not our highest self, when we sacrifice the Divine to our ego, etc., we have a yearning to re-encounter this Presence.
    Zacchaeus "only" opens himself to the Divine, and the Divine responds by inviting him to come closer, to eat with him, to be with him.  No fireworks!  The invitation can be a little thing like looking at one of Rick's nature photos on Facebook...or a song.
    How do I feed my soul every day?  If I'm not feeding it I'm starving it!  How do we invite others into our circle?  How do we share our experience of the Divine?

Zacchaeus's life was changed by this encounter with Jesus.
    Let's be eager to climb our "sycamore trees" to see who Jesus is, to respond to his request to stay at our house today and each day, and to reflect on this experience.  It might change us, grow us a bit.  Let us then share our experience with our circle of family and friends, perhaps even invite them to our Sacred Gatherings.
    Bottom line is:     anticipate   -    experience     -     reflect

8.8 Billion Earth-size just-right Planets
Taken from an article in The Capital, 11-6-2013
The Milky Way Galaxy
"A study finds the Milky Way is teeming with billions of planets that are about the size of Earth, orbit stars just like our sun, and exist in the Goldilocks zone--not too hot and not too cold for life."  This was discovered by astronomers using NASA data and was just published in the Journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Science.  The article continues: "In the Milky Way, about 1 in 5 stars that are like our sun in size, color and age have planets that are roughly Earth's size and are in the habitable zone where life-crucial water can be liquid, according to intricate calculations based on four years of observations from NASA's now-crippled Kepler telescope."

 Trees
  by Joyce Kilmer
                                            I  think that I shall never see
trees-square-sm.jpg
   A poem lovely as a tree.

   A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
  Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;

  A tree that looks at God all day,
  And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

  A tree that may in summer wear
                             A nest of robins in her hair;

                             Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
                             Who intimately lives with rain.

                             Poems are made by fools like me,
                             But only God can make a tree.
