In the beginning was the Creative Energy:
The Creative Energy was with God
and the Creative Energy was God.
It was with God in the beginning.
Through it all things came to be...

Larry Griffin will be with us on Sunday, July 14 to receive a grant from our Benevolence Fund and speak during an extended Community 3.
 | Larry Griffin, Founder of We Care & Friends
|
The following is a short clip from an interview with Larry by Pamela Wood on January 6, 2013, which appeared in Capital Gazette.com under "2013 Newsmaker: Larry Griffin."
"Griffin is on the front lines of the struggle against poverty and addiction. The need for his organization's services - including meals, shelter, clothing, counseling, drug treatment and emergency shelter - is not diminishing. At the same time, financial support is hard to come by because of a stagnant economy in which potential donors face their own financial struggles."
-
"QUOTE: 'Some people say I put too much on my plate, and maybe I'm not looking far enough, but I don't see anyone else doing it,' Griffin said."

GAIN ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL
The Greater Annapolis Interfaith Network (GAIN) will show two films this summer at St. John Neumann Church, 620 Bestgate Road, Annapolis. They are free and open to the public.
The first film, on July 11 at 7 PM, will be "Genetic Roulettte: The Gamble of our Lives," and the second film, on August 8 at 7 PM will be "Queen of the Sun: What the bees are telling us."
About
"GENETIC ROULETTE:
THE GAMBLE OF OUR LIVES"
(from GAIN's flyer):
"A film by bestselling author Jeffrey M. Smith narrated by Lisa Oz. Experts expose the serious threats to your health and how corporations like Monsanto hide the evidence. Never before seen evidence points to genetically engineered foods as a major contributor to rising disease rates in the US population, especially among children. Gastrointestinal disorders, allergies, inflammatory diseases, and infertility are just some of the problems implicated in humans, pets, livestock, and lab animals that eat genetically modified soybeans and corn. Monsanto's strong arm tactics, the FDA's fraudulent policies and how the USDA ignores a growing health emergency are also laid bare. This sometimes shocking film may change your diet, help you protect your family, and accelerate the consumer tipping point against genetically modified organisms (GMOs)."

Face What Most Challenges You
I am not a speaker. I grant that those who can speak have great courage. It is not my gift but one I must continue to develop in my field of education. I find fire in their words when my words come from the pen or the camera.
I call my world "The Support Staff," as you do not see us but you know we are there. It is a difficult challenge to join the speakers. I can only imagine what many speakers have had to overcome to be where they are. Here is where I find humor with me. I can go out and sing at karaoke yet I am shy in community gatherings. I remember a time being more of a speaker, but that was before I opened doors and windows and all that stuff sleeping in my gut was released. I fight things that are old and smelling, with a new energy. I see hope when no hope should be found. Why can I sing at karaoke? Perhaps because it is a character as the song is not my own. I have yet to share those - be it a dream to be a songwriter. As I sit here ALONE- ALONE- in this beautiful church, I feel something in my gut. I feel my speaker talking to me. I hear it saying, "I WANT OUT, LET ME TALK." I feel it pushing me harder than before. I know it is a Britney Spears' song, but the words, "I want to scream and shout and let it all out" is saying whatever my heart wants to say. In the future, if you see me standing
 | | Erine |
in front, just remember I was not always a speaker but support staff. It is a hard and difficult step to make, but the rewards are limitless and who knows what lives you will touch or how. "I want to scream and shout and let it all out, scream and shout and let it all out, saying..." |
Environmental Tip: help save water
Small household leaks can add up to gallons of water lost every day. We can save a lot of water by checking our plumbing fixtures and irrigation systems each year.

unwavering
by Christina Borgoyn
I see the glory in the skies far and high above, knowing the words from songs of ancient lore, we have strong hearts that stand proud and tall amid the flags unfurling so colorful with pride, the gleaming white allegiance to a country that refuses to back down, the blue and the red are the bruising stains of our refusal to stand down in a fight, the war wages on, in our blood rages the pride, in the foundation of our bones, we sing glory alleluia, for this day is the remembrance of our memorial of auld, the testimony of our strength in a country that leads, the faith in a constitution of rights that know the history of this grand nation falling as quilted squares, littered once as separate, now standing stronger, prouder, taller, as a united union with hearts full of gold and promise, words spilling as sunshine from lips that never cease smiling, praise our allegiance of right over our hearts towards a flag that forever stands, golden in unwavering sunlight. |
